Question: Pointe shoe requirements!?
Ok, so i wanna get pointe shoes!. I don't take ballet but i do take jazz and contemporary!. I have been doing research and i guess its better to get your foot measured for pointe shoes first time around, but i don't know if a store would measure my foot cause i don't have the ballet training, but i am old enough!. So basically would a store be willing to measure my foot, and if not what size do i get online, or should i just forget it!!? my foot is 9 1/2

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You say you want to get pointe shoes!. why!? dancing on pointe can be very painful, and it will hurt a little bit most of the time!. yes, they look pretty, but that's not a good reason for wanting them!. second, if you really want them, take ballet classes and let your teacher know you want to do pointe!. Do tons of ankle exercises and maybe you can get them in a year or two, depending on the strength of your ankle and other things!. Some stores won't give you pointe shoes unless your teacher has a recommendation!. it's even better if your teacher fits them to you!. either forget it, or be determined to work and wait!. if you use them before you're ready or without supervision, you could critically injure yourself!. please don't Www@QuestionHome@Com

Those who have answered before me have put it perfectly and I could not agree more!. However, I just wanted to answer your question about toe pads!. It is very silly and should be dropped immediately, as you could still hurt yourself!. You simply must face that you are not ready for pointe yet!. Some people never are!

Please, PLEASE do not! I repeat not get pointe shoes unless you have done ballet for at least 3 years and a teacher has told you are ready!.
1!. You may not have enough strength, which is what they are looking for at the age you may recieve the shoes!.
2!. You dont know any ballet basics! Let's say I have never ridden a horse before and you just got on and went over a jump!. Dangerous! (Plus you will probably fall off since you don't know what the heck you are doing!.) That is the same concept!.

We dancers have to wait many years of prestigous training until we are able to recieve our first pair of shoes!. That's many years of training, improving our flexibility and muscle strength, coordination, etc!. You see, it's very difficult!.

So if you want them so very bad, please just take a ballet class! Since you already do jazz and contemporary you will probably not have as hard of a time as other beginners, so that's good for you, but there are many different steps you do in ballet!.

Edit: Is your friend in ballet!? And if she had to work up to them, dont you think you would have to, too!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
