An on-going dance class - i assume you mean a regular, normal class which is held regularly all year!. These classes are designed to build up your skills throughout the year!. By the end you should have achieved all skills required for that level!. If you haven't, you are usually kept in that class the next year!.

Jazz classes usually have barre work (for warming up the body and limbering), floor excersises (for flexibility, strength and limbering), center work (including isolations, turns, kicks etc!.) and steps (these are combinations of skills!.)

You will not be expected to know how to do all of the work!. This is why you go to class, to learn how to do it!. Every week you will go and perform the same, or similar excerises to build up your skill!. You will learn how to do these perfectly!. You will also learn dances, which are always fun and new, and may also come across improvisation (free dance where you do your own thing to music), and combinations (usually done at the end of class for fun and to excersise the mind!.)

To prepare for a jazz class, you should start stretching every day!. Work towards a greater range of flexibility for all body parts (legs, feet, shoulders and back especially!.) also just do some improvisation at home to gain a better appreciation for dance!.

Good luck for your new class!Www@QuestionHome@Com
