However, from here on out, you need to make sure that your teachers have had professional performing experience and you need to start training alongside a selective group of fellow dance students!. Dance training is not just about quantity (years and hours of training) but also about quality!. Essentially, it's time for you to start looking into summer dance intensives, which hold their auditions in January, February and March!. At the very least, you need to see how your current training measures up by seeing if you can get accepted into a selective program that weeds out applicants through an audition!. If you can attend one of those summer programs, you're likely to find that your training at your home studio is not at the same level!. This will help you to start making plans to adjust your year-round training so that you can stay more competitive with other pre-professional dancers your age across the country!. At the very least, you need to start gaining experience with serious, make-or-break, auditions - those with judges who are (or were) professional dancers!. Start subscribing to Dance Spirit and Dance Magazine to read up about what's happening in the dance world!. I am a dance major in college then going towards my dream of becoming a professional so that I can have something to fall back on when my career ends!.
