Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1!. You need to be fitted, theres a zillino different kinds
2!. Use both
3!. Ribbon is attached at the side seam!. elastics are attached where the darst would be if you fold down the back!. If you use two peices, attach one end of each peace by the ribbons
4!. Once you have the shoe on, cross them once in front of your leg, once in back, one more time in front, tie to the side and tuck in!. No higher then just above the ankle!.
5!. You should try a few different kinds, I like Gelos
6!. As tight as they can be while your toes are still flat!. NO GROWING ROOM!
7!. They'' get cruddy, theyre supposed to!. If you need to clean them up a bit, you can dab calomine lotion on with a makeup sponge!.
8!. Just ask, Lovie!

You may want to wear covertible tights so you can hold pads in place, dont tape until you know where its needed!. You may not need to at allWww@QuestionHome@Com

you use both ribbons and elastic!. you sew on the elastic first and the ribbons cover it up!.

you will want to buy a ballet sewing kit that's most likely sold at the same place you'll get the shoes, and included in this is a set of instructions for how to sew on the elastic and ribbon!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should go to a store that sells them and they fit you and tie the ribbon on and explain everything!. If there isnt, ask your pointe teacher!. They will help you!.

MAKE SURE YOU BUY TOE POUCHES IF YOU DONT YOU WILL SERIOUSLY INJURE YOUR FEET!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'd be best going to your local dancing shop where they sell shoes they'd be able to answer these questions for youWww@QuestionHome@Com

When you buy pointe shoes, its best that you actually go to a dance store so they can measure you!.!. Its critical that they fit properly!. If not you can risk hurting yourself!. Shoes now have both elastic nad ribbons!. Its really up to your preference but now that both are included!.!. you have comfortability and flexibility and the nice classic look of ribbon!. I usually just use cotton over dr scholls gel tabs!. The reason I do this is the gel pads sold at dance stores are expensive and tear easily!. I buy the Dr Scholls foot pads and I cut them to fit inside my shoe!. They are free awesome and then I put the cotton wool pieces over that just so my toes dont slide or what not!. Its really comfortable and inexpensive!.

Pointe shoes should fit like a glove!. Not tight nor big!. Just like a glove!. Just be sized and you should be fine!. To Keep Them Clean, I buy Shout Wipes or even the Clorox Stain Pen!. Just using that, keeps them clean when they get dirty and they will get dirty!. Dont ever wash them though!. I made that mistake!!

The footless tights you can buy at a dance store or online!. You can put them over your foot or let your toes stick through!. You can even pull them up to your ankles, mid calf or knees for a shorter look!.

Good Luck!.!. Its tough but you will love it!! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really think you should call the dance studio you are training at and ask them for suggestions!. also, if you go to a dance store, they can tell you the answers to these questions!. Ask them what makes a good point shoes!. What is a higher end brand and any other questions you may have!.

I'd recommend going to as many shops as possible (they don't all carry the same makes or styles within each make) and being properly fitted before buying anything!. Try to have on socks/tights similar to those you will be dancing in and if you wear toe-pads or pouches bring those too!. Ask the assistants to write down the best styles and sizes in each place and then decide right at the end!.

You're investing in the future health of your feet (and in fact the rest of your body) so while it can be boring/confusing/frustrating it is worth taking time over!. Even if it is hard not to get distracted by all the other things to see/buy in dance shops! Especially if you are young your feet will be changing in both shape, size and strength so unless you are going through shoes very quickly it is better to be re-fitted than just automatically stay with what was best for you before!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Care and Maintenance of Ballet Pointe Shoes and sewing ribbons and elastics

Before we begin sewing ribbons and elastics on your newly bought pointe shoes, you must remember to!.!.!.!.

Fold your ballet pointe shoes up properly after each class or rehearsal, winding the ribbons around each shoe!.

Take the Pointe shoes out of your dance bag as soon as you get home, don't forget! (Important) Place the shoes somewhere so that they can dry out, but not in the oven!. Yes, it has been known to put Pointe shoes in the oven to dry!.

One dancer who was in a professional ballet company forgot her toe shoes when she went out to buy groceries!. When she came back to her smoking appartment, not only were her ribbons and elastics burned, her toe shoes looked like burned pieces of wood stumps!. Lucky for her the fire department didn't come!.

Drying the shoes allows the glue inside the shoes to harden again!. You didn't know that there is glue inside the ballet pointe shoes!? That is the technical aspect of what and how the shoes are made!. If you can, purchase two pair at a time!. Rotate wearing them!. The ballet pointe shoes will last longer as the glue in the shoes harden after each time your child wears them in class or rehearsal!.

Feetfirst should always be not forgotten in regard to your child's feet when taking care of her pointe shoes!.

DO Not!

Wear ballet point shoes outside on the street or get them wet!.

Dry shoes in an oven (already mentioned) or in a microwave, unless you want to have cooked, baked or roasted shoes for a snack!.

Burn fraying ends of ribbons with a match or lighter!. Some dancers do it never try this without an adult!

Use any kind of chemicals to clean the pointe shoes and/or ribbons, or elastics!.
Sewing Ribbons

Before you start sewing ribbons, make sure you have: Ribbon, Thread (white or Pink), Sewing Needle, Scissors, Measuring tape, pencil

1!. Your ribbon usually comes in one long piece!. Cut it onto four equal lengths before sewing ribbons on to your shoes!.

2!. Take the shoe and find the side seams!. Measure 1/2 inch in back of this seam!. Mark it with the pencil!.

3!. Take the end of one ribbon and fold it over by about 3/4 of an inch!. Fold it over again!. Now the cut edge is inside of the fold and will not fray!.

4!. Place this folded part of the ribbon on the inside of the shoe, where you marked it, shiny side facing out!.

5!. Using needle and thread sew the ribbon into the shoe!. Make sure you sew small stitches all the way around the 4 edges of the ribbon, making a rectangle!. If you know how to cross stitch, this is even better!.

6!. Repeat the process of sewing ribbons on the other side of the shoe!. Do second ballet pointe shoe!.

HINTS As you become more experienced sewing ribbons on Ballet Pointe Shoes you may decide to alter the placement of your ribbons!. Some dancers like them further back!. If you do this, look at your foot on pointe!. Do you see the side of the shoe gaping at the instep!? If yes!. your ribbons are too far back!. Always remember that sewing ribbons on pointe shoes provide an important function by holding the shoe in place at the instep!.

To keep pointe shoe ribbons from wrinkling

Fold the part that covers the heel in, and fold the sides of the shoe on top of that and wrap the ribbons tightly around the shoe!. That should do it! Www@QuestionHome@Com

IM DEFINITLEY THE PERSON TO ASK
ive been on pointe since i was nine and im fifteen now!.

first of all you need to get them at a dance apparel shop!. NOWHERE ELSE especially offline because the dance shops know almost everything about finding you perfect shoe!. i think they go down a size from your street shoe!. i dont remember i havent gotten new shoes in 2 years cuz my feet r done growing!.
DONT USE ELASTIC! most schoosl will tell you too cut them off and as for the ribbons, you need to and sew them specifically where your instructor want it and they will tell you how to tie them and NO THEY DO NOT GO UP UR LEG IN CRISS CROSS THEN TIED WITH A PRETTY BOW
as for toe/gel pads, get really simple pretty thin ones as a beginner because if you start out with too much padding or comfort your foot will adapt to that and when your teacher make you take them out cuz they dont require them then your feet will kill as well as you will not be connected to the floor!.
POINTE SHOES SHOULD BE TIGHT!. if they are loose you wont have any support but if they hurt cuz they r so tight ur feet will turn purple!.
and it dosent matter if the are clean it is actually better if they dont look clean because that measn you are breaking them in and you are working hard!.
AND YES you should get 'convertible tights" they have an oval shaped hole at the bottom so when you are doing ankle exersizes you can take them off and get a better look but you can put them back on when you are on ur pointe shoes!.
p!.s!. if you get bad blisters, Second SKin moist burn relief pads honestly do wonders!.
