Well both of them are wonderful but to be a very strong lyrical dancer, you need ballet training in order to do very well and capably hit clean positions!. Lyrical is by far my favorite kind of dance!. Ballet can be hard and sometimes seem tedious but everything that you do in ballet reflects the way you perform in lyrical!. Take this from a long time dancer, don't do lyrical without formal ballet training!. Do ballet for a year and then if you are given the option, begin doing lyrical!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly!? I prefer lyrical to ballet!. It's less rigid, more expressive, more able to move away from proper technique, more open to different choreography!.!.!.

HOWEVER, ballet IS the basis for most styles of dance, including lyrical!. It would be good to learn the true basics and technique of this before trying lyrical!. If the lyrical class also teaches you the proper technique, then definitely check out lyrical!

It's mostly a matter of what your taste is though!. If you'd prefer classical work, with major structure in the class, then go for ballet!. If you'd prefer much more openness and emotionality, try lyrical!.

Good luck with whichever you choose! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend taking ballet first!. It is the core of all dancing!. It will provide you with a strong technique in case you decide to switch to lyrical, or any other type of dance!. It will give you the muscle and fexibility you need to for lyrical!. lyrical is different from ballet because its a mixture of jazz and ballet!. Its more up beat, and its not as strict as ballet!. i really dont think you can say what one is better, it depends on the person!. Personally for me ive taken both and i like ballet more!. I like that its slower and its just ballet!. where like i said lyrical is a mixture!. I think im better at ballet than lyrical!. So if I were you I would take at least a year of ballet, then try lyrical if you want to, then you can compare the two and see what one you like better!.

here are two videos!.!.!.of people in a lyrical class and ballet!.

I would start out with lyrical!. I have been taking dance for my whole life and I have found that lyrical is more upbeat than ballet!. Ballet requires more discipline, and it is hard to start off in a class with such discipline!. After a couple of years you may consider changing to ballet, or doing both!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ballet, it will tone your body and build discipline
plus with ballet you can dance other groups like contemporary

good luck!
