Weight suprisingly has a lot less to do with dance-ability than most think!

It has the most to do with your muscles - your flexibility and strength!. And heavier individuals can achieve both of those just as well as a skinny twig can!. :)

The more flexible you are, the easier many moves are!. The stronger your legs are, the better (higher, longer, etc) your moves will be!

I have seen super skinny girls have amazing flexibility and strength, and I've seen super skinny girls not able to do ANYTHING!. Same with heavier girls!. I've seen some heavier girls have the best flexibility in the class!. And they were able to get their leaps up just as high as, if not higher than, the skinnier girls!

Regardless of your weight, unless you were obese, you should have the same chances of doing things as the others in your class!. It depends on your training and devotion!.

The only exception I can think of is work with your ankles (example - pointe work)!. If you're heavier, than you're placing more weight on your toes, feet, ankles!. However, if you have the strength in your lengths, feet, and ankles, you shouldn't have any problems!

Here are some really helpful links to help with dancer's flexibility and strengthening:

Not unless you're severely overweight!. Usually gaining or losing weight hinders the ability to dance because the person is so used to dancing the way that works best for their body that getting used to a different weight is harder!. I mean, extra weight can't hurt a dancer, unless they're en pointe, then it just hurts their toes a little bit more!. But no, ability is soley based on the dancer's general ability not their weight or height!. Oh, and growing taller is the same way!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

well it depends are you really overweight for your height!? If not then its okay just try to excersise a bit more but remember not to over do it and try to eat healthy!!

Trust Me!!!

Oh yah if you are really overweight and your on pointe, it may be a bit dangerous because your body weight is pressured on your toes!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on how adapted you are to dancing!? If youve been dancing for awhile your body should be used to it, no matter what weight class you are!.!.!.My friend is 170 and break dancing=Doing hand stands on one hand and jumping all over the place lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you are dancing with out any problems, with the weight you are now!. your fine!. but if you are having problems, weight loss may help but don't over do it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
