This is a very good youtube video that tell you how to break in pointe shoes!. Another way to do it is by walking around the house with them, wearing them in class and doing a few releves in them!. I dont kknow how many classes you take each week but 6 months is a very long time for pointe shoes!. they might last that long if you have just got 1 or 2 classes a week!. Remember to be careful when breaking them in so they don't snap in two!.
(Breaking in and softening is basically the same thing)
ps!.: dont steam them!. the glue wont hold and the shoes will not last for long at all!.
psps!.: do not wear them without the ribbons and elastics!. They are there to support your ankle, and you might damage them if you dont wear them!.
pspsps!.: if your teacher hasnt put you en pointe it is for a reason!. maby youre not ready or youre not old enough or youre not strong enough!. i dont know the reason, i just know there is one!.
talk to your teacher about it though!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would recommend against steaming because you might actually soften the glue that holds the shoe together!.

i did a number of things to soften the box: first, i would step on it with my heel and bounce a little!. this won;t break the box, but it will create some give so it isn't so stiff!. then i would knead the box with my hands a just a few times!. you really don't want to soften the box because it's there to help support your foot!. theoretically, as your build strength and work the shoe, your foot will mold the shoe!. you can also soften the shank by bending the shoe back and forth a few times!.

if your teacher hasn't placed you on pointe then you may, in fact, not be strong enough!. i would wait to worry about this until your teacher gives the go-ahead for pointe class!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Steam the box of the pointe shoe to break it in!. After 10 seconds of steaming, gently press on the toe box to soften it!.

Practice rising to pointe!. Remember to roll through demi pointe as you releve!. This helps the shoe to bend where you need it to!.

Roll slightly past pointe on each foot!. Start from parallel first position!. Bend the right knee and press the right foot so that you are pressing the top of the toe box!. Repeat on the left side!.

This is what i do when i get new pointe shoes, it all helps to soften the box!.

I was also going to say, you will be hard pushed to get your pointe shoes to last for 4-6 months!.
Hope this helps!.

i also would recommend against steaming! wear your pointe shoes around the house, but put a sock on over them to protect the satin!. you can also step on the box, carefully around where they would bend for releve!. you can also work that area with your hands!. i have see people close them in door jambs, but you need to be careful not to break the box, only to soften it!.
anaheim ballet has some good videos on you tube!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Around the house (I prefer to wear my shoes in outside of class because there's nothing worse than dancing in hard, painful shoes) just walk around and go through your basic warm-ups, then rise in and out of demi-pointe several times before going onto full pointe!. also, I'm pretty sure one of the good dance brands makes a sort of nice cover you can put over your pointe shoes to make them last longer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you could steam them i know quite a few people that do that although ive never tried it myself!. also roll them!. put them on a flat clean surface and gently roll the box on the floor it just softens them slightly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

just wear them in class!. it kinda depends on what brand you have too and how hard the shank is

if you have chacott v's they are pretty soft and you just wear them in class and they break in easilyWww@QuestionHome@Com
