for ballet most likely you will need to wear: hair up (bun or high pony)
stirrup tights or footed tights, a bodysuit (short sleeved or tank top, black is best), and your teacher may allow you to wear a pair of shorts over the bodysuit and tights (esp if you are older), and black ballet shoes!.

for jazz: hair up (bun or high pony), stirrup tights,a bodysuit (short sleeved or tank top, black is best), and your teacher may allow you to wear a pair of shorts over the bodysuit and tights (esp if you are older), and black jazz shoes!. (although at some studios including my own, you wear bare feet!.

for hiphop: hair up (bun or high pony), stirrup tights (optional for this class only), bodysuit (optional for this class only), shorts or sweats and a tank top or other tight fitting cool top, and possibly plain white sneakers!. (some studios allow bare feet also)

for stretch and strength: same as ballet and jazz (no shoes)

the most important thing to remember is to have fun and after the first class you will see what they typically wear and will be forgiven by your dance teacher since its your first class!. to my first class I just wore shorts, a tank top, and bare feet!. DON'T STRESS!!!

*you may feel uncomfortable about showing up to your first class in full dance gear, esp if you've never been there before at all!. so its best to dress comfortably and then find out from the teacher or students whats best to wear!.

For ballet: Leotards, obviously!. You could also go with camis and tank tops if you can't find leotards!. Some classes require you wear skirts, but you can usually also wear ballet shorts, which are basically stretchy spandex shorts!. You also have to wear tights, which can be any color (usually tan, pink, or black)!. You can find all this stuff at a dance clothing store!. Lots of dance studios sell dance clothes!.

For jazz and hip-hop: Tank tops/camis, Soffe shorts (you know those cotton-ish shorts that people often wear for exercising!? The ones that are usually quite short!? Yeah, those!.) and tights!. A lot of the time people cut the feet off of their tights, or just make a slit in the bottom so that you can wear them as capri-length or full-length!. If you can find actual convertible tights that can be worn at any length, you don't have to worry about this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a ballet dancer!.!.!.so I can tell you about ballet!.

You'll need pink dance tights!. Pink ballet slippers!. (I recommend leather split soles)--I have the Bloch Brand!.!.but there are many brands!.

Then you'll also need a black leotard!. They come in long sleeve, short sleeve, tanks, camis, etc!. Ask the instructor what the dress code is!.
