Question: How long will it take to become a competitive latin dancer!?
I am 21 (soon to be 22) and I am going to start ballroom dancing very soon!. I want to compete in latin dance but I am just wondering how long it will take before I will be ready to compete!. I know everybody is different but if I take private lessons 3 or 4 times a week how long do you think it would take!? I would love to go to the Dancesport latin dance competitions!. Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have no prior dance experience and you are not some sort of extremely gifted dance prodigy, it will take you about three years taking lessons three times a week AND practise for one hour a day!. Don't take more than three lessons!. Its better to practice more often than take more lessons!.

Usually, your studio will have floor time available for you to practice but often your local gym will have some hardwood floor that you can practice on!. I prefer this because you get used to dancing in front of strangers!.

I'd also like to give a shameless plug for my blog called the "Ballroomblog" at http://www!.myspace!.com/ballroomblog
Its a great resource for beginning dancers!. See you there!

Competitions are available at all levels, so you can compete as a beginner against other beginners, if you wish!. At the other end, to compete in top flights will take a few years, assuming you can get there at all!. In between are some quite good levels of dance that will offer challenges and rewards to satisfy just about anybody!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

2 weeks if you try hard enough!. I studied with Felipe Polanco in Puerto Rico in his intensive course, and we ate, breathed, and slept latino for 2 weeks!. I became a master of the dance floor, and now all my friends call me the Magnificent Dancing Chimichanga!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it takes a while i think its pretty hard!. i have a friend who belly dances and it took her 2 years to learn it!. latin dancing you have to move with ALL your body and do some pretty feisty moves but they look good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably a month or so with lessons that often; but you'd only be a rookie, so don't expect much through your first few competition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
