There are many, many, many colleges where you can major in dance all across the U!.S!. and beyond!. The Dance Magazine College Guide lists almost all of them, so be sure to get hold of the print version and start reading up on your options:
http://dancemedia!.k-online!.biz/cgi-bin/B!.!.!.

In general, if dance is the main thing you want to do after college, then you should look for a program that offers a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree where your dance training comprises at least 60% or more of your curriculum!. If you wish to combine your interest in dance with other disciplines, then a BA or BS (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) degree is fine!. You will need to examine all of the programs (even the BFA ones) to determine whether the mix of academic and dance requirements is right for you!. You will also need to assess whether the programs offer enough classes in the dance styles you're interested in and whether those classes will offer the level of challenge that you need to keep improving!.

In general, most college dance programs place their main emphasis on modern dance, even though all students are required to take ballet!. A handful of programs place their main focus on ballet!. Then other programs have varying degrees of dual-emphasis programs, and another handful offer triple-emphasis programs in ballet, modern and jazz!. The proof is not in their class offerings, but in the styles of dance that they showcase in their performances!.

It is not too soon for you to start visiting college dance programs!. I started taking my daughter to see out-of-state programs when she was in 9th grade!. It really helps to visit the programs during the fall and winter/spring semesters so you can observe classes and hopefully attend their performances!. By your junior year in high school, you can request to sample the college dance classes by taking some classes during your visit!. Talk to as many dance majors as you can to see what they like and don't like about their programs!.

I know about many dance programs, as my daughter was a student at four college dance programs, including two as a matriculated student!. She recently gradated with her BFA in dance from a triple-emphasis program!. She has attended summer intensives from coast-to-coast (including one that is also the summer session in a college dance program) and has met hundreds of other college dance majors!. Instead of listing all the ones I know, I'm going to list the ones that many people will consider to be among the best!. They include:
