You need to make an appointment at a dancewear store with a trained pointe shoe fitter!. Wear your ballet tights underneath your clothes to the fitting (regular socks may make your feet a different size)!. also cut your toenails the day/a few days before (if they are too long it hurts) but not on the day in case you cut them too short (hurts too)!.

The fitting will probably last 45 minutes to an hour and you will try on lots of different brands, styles and sizes of shoes!. There is no one "beginner" type!. Softer shoes with easy passage through demi-pointe are sometimes better to start with, but they still need to be hard enough to support your foot!. The fitter will help you decide which ones fit best!. They should fit snugly on pointe and not bag around the heels!. also if you demi pile in second your toes should touch the ends (never actually tried this but have been told)!.

You don't actually need any padding (plenty of people dance without it - myself included - with no pain) but for some people it can sometimes hurt a bit (I think especially for people with very long toes or thin flat feet) so you might want to try a few types on in the store with the shoes you are going to get (important: can change the size of shoe you need)!. You might need gel pads and toe separaters; you might need nothing!.

These could include:
Loose Lambswool
Lambswool pads
Gel pads
Ouch pouches
Foam Pads
Toe Spacers
Gel pads for individual toes
Foam pads for indiviual toes
Toe Tape

And other random stuff that people use as padding:
Bits of socks
Kitchen roll
Makeup sponges
Duct tape
Band aids
etc!.!.!.!.!.

Some studios will allow only loose lambswool or tape for your first pair (or may not allow Gaynor Mindens - a type of pointe shoes) so check before going!.

You'll also need to buy ribbons to sew on (and possibly elastics)!. They will probably tell you how to sew them on and how to tie them!. The ends of the pointe shoes (the bit which touches the floor when you go on pointe) will probably need to be darned!. This takes quite a long time and they will probably explain how do do that too!. If there are already coverings (usually suade!?) on the tips then they won't need to be darned!. You can also buy things to glue/sew on the end if you don't want to darn them!.

Your teacher will probably want to check your shoes, especially your first pair, before you use them!. Don't darn them, sew the ribbons or break them in before they are checked - they can't be returned then!. Your teacher will tell you how they want you to break your shoes in if they do!.

I would also advise to have some band aids/plasters ready after your first class with new, stiff, completely un-broken in shoes (just in case you get a blister! You might not, and if you do you won't always - after they are broken in blisters are very less likely)!.

Pointe is a fantastic experience and even if it's hard work and hurts occasionally, it's still great fun in the end (think about that first performance on pointe and how fantastic that will feel!)!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ouch pouches are better beacuse they don't take up as much room in your shoes as the gel pads!. Plus, they actually make the shoes more comfortable!. I can't tell you what type of shoe is the best because it depends on many things, like your arch and how soft you need the shank!. It's best to have your ballet instructor to go with you to get your shoes fitted because they know how you dance and what fit is the best!. You know it's the right shoe if the box is completely on the grond when you are in releve!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For the toe pads, I actually use pillows for pointe lambs wool pads!. At first they are thick but once you wear them, you can feel the floor good!. I like them a lot!.

I use Capezio Glisse' Pro ES pointe shoes and have used Capezio Plie II!. I have narrow feet and like shoes that really show my arch!.The Capezio ribbons work well too!.

The way you are fitted is first they should ask you if it is your first pair of pointe shoes and what your street shoe size is!. Then you will try on lots of different brands and styles of pointe shoes!.

You will know when it is the right shoe because te box of the shoe will be tight but not putting too much pressure on the foot!. The heel space will not be baggy and the shoe will look really good on your foot when you are just standing strait and on pointe!.

Make sure to ask your teacher what pointe shoe store to go to and what shoe she DOESN'T want you to get like the Bloch Alpha she probably wont let you get because it is for experienced dancers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ouch pouches are best are you going to bloch!?
they should be able to fit you and you can just tell thm bigginer point because they might ask that way it doesn't matter

do's
after you finished take out ur ouch poches to dry the shoe so the block doesn't become soft so fast

dont's
really break them (like my sis did )
do not put them in your bag strait away without drying

(i will think of more and get back to you)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I say pointy shoes are a don't all the way around
SorryWww@QuestionHome@Com

okay so i started pointe a little over two years ago!.

i would use gel pads!. i use the kind that is clear with the sock-like material on the other side!. this kind is not very thick so you can feel the floor better!. if they are too thick you wont be able to feel the floor and more likely to fall while turning!.

u will have to go and try on a lot of different kinds of pointe shoes your first time!. try to get the one with the widest toe and fits you everwhere else the best!. the wider the toe the easier it is for you to balance!. i use capezio pointe shoes but everyone is different!.

you go to a dance store and they will try on many different shoes!. when you have on a pair you think is right go up on your toes (holding on to a bar) and have the fitter pinch behind the heel if it is a big pinch the shoes are too big!. if she cant pinch at all, they are too small, if there is barely a pinch then they are perfect!. also make sure when you are standing flat that the toe of the shoes looks like is going straight off your foot and not a little to the left or a little to the right!.

my teacher always has us by freed ribbon because it ties better!. no matter the kind of pointe shoe tell the you want freed ribbon and they will put it in the box with your brand new pointe shoes!.

do's, dont's, tips!.!.!.!. just be careful while using your new shoes!.!.!.never where someone elses shoes and dont let anyone wear yours, if you do they will become fitted to their foot instead of yours!.!.!. also dont try to move faster than your dance instructor!. only practice the things she has already taught u how to do!.!.!.and have fun!!!

i hope this helped!(:Www@QuestionHome@Com
