Question: I had been dancing for almost 10 years, however i quit before i was put on pointe so i want to know something!
Do i have the skills it would take for me to teach myself pointe!?

Dont fuss at me for wanting to teach myself that!.

I didnt really like the dance studios in the town/area where I currently live!. I prefer the studio from my hometown, but seeing as it is four hours away I dont think my mom would allow me to travel so far class!.

The last teacher I had was going to put me on it, but she had this weird taste for dancing and almost every dance we did envovled "popping it"!.!.!.LOL!.

Anyways, I want to know if i could teach myself (videos would be useful), if i can wear pointe shoes like to a school dance (dont ask), how long it would take for me to teach myself, and any tips!.

PLEASE
I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER
xoxo

p!.s!. just so you know i started dancing when i was 2ish and i stoped around 12ish and links are greatly appreciatedWww@QuestionHome@Com

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! You can not teach yourself pointe work!. It is soooo dangerous and a ver bad bad bad idea! And it is very pointless anyway, because teaching yourself will get you no where except having bad techniqye and habits that will be very hard to break if you ever decide to dance again!.

Are you familiar with this article!?
http://online!.wsj!.com/article/SB12124512!.!.!.
I would suggest you read it and think twice before trying to self teach pointe!

The ballet dancers you see en pointe train daily with qualified teachers watching them very closely!. Any bad habits are weeded out!. I'm sorry to say this, but that stuff can't be learnt by oneself!.

If ballet could be self taught, there wouldn't be schools like the Royal Ballet School, or Vaganova!. Please do NOT teach yourself pointe! Stick with the ballet excersises, though even with these you could pick up bad habits!.

I actually think you should try some of those ballet schools you didn't like!. You may find they are different now, or that you will be more accepting of them!. You seem to have such a passion for ballet, that shouldn't be wasted!. Maybe you should go and take class again!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I don't think you can teach yourself pointe!. Certainly not safely!. You need an expert to be watching you, to correct you and set the pace of your exercises so you don't break an ankle!. Pointe shoes can be dangerous on untrained feet!.

As to wearing pointe shoes to a school dance!.!.!. I would never do that to my shoes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I dont think you can teach yourself--- i tried so i know what your going through but i taught myself with a sickle and had to get a proper teacher to work it out which was so much hassle---- sorry but if your not willing to face the consequesnces then its not worth it!. also why are you so desperate to get on pointe!. It looks impressive but if yor not willing to work through the hard times--- at the studio you dont like then is it really worth it!?!?!?!? sorry to sound harsh but this should give you somethings to thinks about----- please dont try pointe without proffesional help as you could hurt yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I don't think you can teach yourself correctly!.

You need a teacher watching and supervising you for a while to make sure that you are getting the technique right!. You can't see that stuff yourself or even recognize all of it if it was like on video or something!. Its a tempting idea I know:) but very dangerous sorry!.

also, how long has it been since you danced regularly!? You need to be in really great shape (dance wise) and be dancing regularly, like at least 3x a week or something before you start on pointe, otherwise your muscles won't be strong enough and you'll probably wind up doing tons of damage!.

I wouldn't really recommend wearing pointe shoes to a school dance even once you were taught correctly- who knows whats on the floor, how level it is, etc!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
