Question: I am 35 yrs old and want to get back into dancing!?
When I was much younger, I danced jazz, tap and ballet; then in college fell in love with modern (or do they call it contemporary now!?)!. How do I get back into it!? The thing I have noticed is that it is close to impossible to find a studio with anyone older than 18 years old!.
How do I find one (in Ft Lauderdale area) that I will feel comfortable at!? Preferably jazz or modern!.
also, dance is like riding a bike - I know that I will pick things up really quickly and regain my technique, but am physically WAY out of shape!. So would I be able to keep up in an intermediate level (for sure I would not be able to physically take on the rigours of advanced class)!.
Any advice (even from those younger than 18) would be appreciated!. ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

Dancing was my passion growing up but my parents never had the money!. We were so poor we struggled to keep food on the table!. But when i turned 18 i worked for it!. I was to shy to take many intermedite courses but the begineers courses with adults and lots of seniors that they offered at my local rec center were to easy! Well i am twenty five now and last year i stopped letting that shyness hold me back!. I started taking advanced classes with 15 and 16 year olds! Guess what!? They loved me and were so willing to help! I've caught on so quickly that i am teaching two childrens classes in the fall!!! Please don't let your age or shyness hold you back from your passion!. oh and about keeping up!.!.!.!.!.Well you may huff and puff for a couple of weeks, but that goes away! It gets you into shape and motivates you to get in good physical condition!. Good luck hun! and Have fun, you only live once!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should workout for a while before you start attending dancing classes!. I don't know any specific place in your area!. When you are in great shape already, just go to class and don't mind others who are younger than you, as long as you have the moves!. I'm sure you can easily cope up with them because you have vast experience in dancing in the past!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would start with your local theatre companies, professional and amateur!. Many of the folks I work with teach classes both to spread their love of dancing or singing to others and to earn some side cash!.

I'm not sure about Ft!. Lauderdale but here in central Florida there are always classes posted on the call boards!.

I know I see dance classes listed at the community colleges!. I bet those teaches also would be a good reference for classes!.

good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're right! There aren't many classes in ballet, tap and modern for adults!. I joined an 'adult' street dance class once and, believe me, there was no one over the age of 16 there (besides me!) Unfortunately I did have to leave the class for other reasons but the kids in there were really cool and helped me out a lot! You might find the same thing happens to you if you join a class for teens!?

Otherwise, why not consider another form of dance such as ballroom, latin or salsa - there are usually lots of classes around for adults!

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
