I actually do know of a ballerina who started quite late and became very good - Melissa Hayden! She was a Canadian dancer who danced with ABT and NYCB, and performed a lot of Balanchine's works!. I read a book by her called "Dancer to Dancer", and was very inspired by the fact that she took her first ballet class when she was 15, went on pointe at 17, and began performing in her early 20s!. She had a very long dance career that spanned from the early 1940's to 1973!. After that she taught ballet at Skidmore College, the School of Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the North Carolina School of the Arts!. I found her story wonderfully inspiring, because I started dancing only 2 years ago (I'm 15), and I'm going on pointe next week!. I really hadn't thought I'd have much of a future with it, but hey, you never know! It's never too late to try! I hope you enjoy that story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you will find that there are practically none for ballerinas - I know personally of a young man who started ballet training at age 19 and became a professional for a dance company in the western US at age 23!. However, he was as natural a dancer as I have ever seen - I've seen a bunch!. Good looks, great line, perfect physique, the whole package!.!.!.as far as I know his dance career lasted only 3 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
