ok right!.!. you can start ballet at any age ask your friends for local dance schools and talk to them about it!.!. most dance schools have a late starters class these except people aged 12 - around 18!.!. this is because people dont want to be in a class with younger children!.!. as for the pointe shoes its when ever your teacher feels you are strong enough not only in your feet but your whole body to be able to hold your weight and use your strength during pointe dance!.!. their is no time limit every person is different!.!. you also need good core and stability!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok to start its pretty dry and boring as i am sure you have already figured out!. but the reality of it is, most ballet lessons you do, you spend doing bar work and practicing your technique!.
its a good idea, maybe to take one class a week or more if you are dedicated, to just do your simple plain bar work and get up to speed on technique!.
then maybe like 5 weeks into all of that stuff, you can go to the dance school and ask for private lessons!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi

Yes,Ballet is very fun and enjoyable!. Well I started at the age of 8 and I was in Primary for the first few weeks and then I did my exam!. My teacher made me skiped a few grades as I would of been so board in the little ones group!. Well you do plies in every grade but the higher the grade you are the harder the plies get ( believe me ) !. I am in The Royal Ballet and it is very hard but it is all worth it!. I got in to The Royal Ballet when I was 9 after doing only a year of ballet!. I love ballet it is my dream to be a pro ballerina!. I hope this has helped you and if you or anyone else would like to contact e please do as I will be happy to help you or give you information on any dance or if you prefer only ballet!. Well you have to at least be on grade 5 but even when you are on grade 5 you may not be on point as it depends how strong you legs are!. Well doing gymnastics will give you more chance of doing thing and aspecally going on point!. KEEP UP THE GYMNASTICS AND NEVER GIVE UP !

Best Wishes to you all for the future

It's alright to start ballet at 13!.I think it's better to start at 13 cause you know you really like ballet and you are willing to put a lot of effort in learning it!.You can opt to take 2 classes per week so you can learn faster!.I use to do ballet!.From my personal experience i had classmates which are in their teens(I was 8 then),they dance better then the little kids!.And they are always the best in class!.
About en pointe, you will be able to do when you are in elementary(that is a grade after grade 8)!.So if you are learning 2 grades in a year, you will be able to start en pointe in 4 years!.
So go get a pair of ballet slippers and start dancing!.Good luck in dancingWww@QuestionHome@Com

I am currently thirteen, and I've been taking dance for five years!. I absolutely love it!. The way my teacher does it, is when i started, she put me in the lowest level class with little kids, then moved me up every week until I got to the class that I matched!. I currently take pointework, nad I have a lot of experience with it!. Last year, when I was only 12, I got the lead role in Nutcracker, and I got to dance with a cute guy:):):)!. I'm not trying to sound braggy, I just want to show that if you're good, ballet can take you really far!. also, if you are interested in drama, dance looks really good on a college resume:)!. PS!. It usually takes around four to five years to get your pointes if you take dance from a pro company!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Firstly, I think it's great that you want to do ballet! It is great fun, excersise and really a great thing to learn! It's great you already have a passion for it too!

13 is not too old to start ballet! You can start at any age!. And because you have gymnastics expereince, you should be able to pick it up, and have the flexibility to do so!. Often people with gymnastics experience pick up ballet well!.

You WILL NOT be in a class with 6 year olds! The most the 6 year olds do is skip, point, plie and maybe walk around on tip toe acting like fairys!. You may be put in a class wiht younger students, though (i'm talking maybe 10-11!.) Be prepared for this!. However, you may advance much more quickly than the younger kids, WITH dedication, commitment and, above all, practise!. Before you know it, you could be in a class with girls your age!.

You will NEVER quit doing the plie or releve! These things are the staples of ballet!. Plies begin nearly EVERY barre excersise!. Then, plies and releves are used SO OFTEN in the centre that without them, you would not have ballet!

Ballet schools set their work so that "hard stuff" is not given all in one hit!. You progress slowly, with stuff getting harder and harder as you go!.

As for pointe shoes, unfortunately you have at least a year and a half to two years to wait!. It really depends on how often you take class, what level you are put in, and how strong your muscles and technqiue are!.

Good luck! DEFINATELY start ballet!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i am 13 and started a few monthes ago in march i am with 7-10 year olds in istd grade 2! but in september i get to start grade 3 with 10-13 year olds aswell so i will be taking two classes a week!!! piles and reveles you will do throughout ballet that dosnt stop you will always do then even pros do plies improve your tern out so you could do with doing some!!!

ah pointe im not en pointe i depends its not abput your age or how long you have been doing it but teqneique and strenght you are ballencing on your toe 1 big toe and that it to stop the pain you have to be able to pull your self up out of your shoe and over witch is hard to do!!! if you try to get on the highest demi-pointe as possible(balls of feet) then that should help
