I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!
I have a flexible back naturally, but it was weak when it came to holding anything!.
I suggest you do an arabesque holding at 90 degrees for 20 seconds every day!.
Then, next week, do it for 25!.
then 30!.
Progressing slowly to two minutes, it hurt at first, but i'm grateful now!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I had a similar problem to you when I was younger!. I had back flexibility, but if I didn't stretch every single day, it would go after a little while!. I found that stretching out my back over one of those exercise balls really helped!. Stretch over it in a bridge position and hold it for however long you feel comfortable with!. also try "flying" on it: lying as flat as possible on top of it without your feet or hands touching the floor (think of the lift Baby does in Dirty Dancing!. That kinda position you wanna be in!)
As you're already a dancer, you know about stretching every day, and how important it is!. Just keep it up and you'll soon notice a difference!

Good luck!

If you're having trouble holding it, your problem isn't flexibility!. It's strength!. Just practice holding it as long as you possibly can until your back muscles literally give out!. Believe me, you will get a lot stronger really fast! Just prepare yourself for soreness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can lay down on your belly and try to make your head touching your toes!. or stand up and lean backwards as far as you can!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
