Question: Trying out pointe!?
I heard one of my friends from dance saying she could barely roll up onto her box, and my other friend has been on pointe for a while and is just learning to do a pirouette on pointe from rolling up onto the box!. So I was playing around with my friend's pointe shoes, and I rolled up onto the box really easily!. Then I tried to do a pirouette after rolling up onto the box, and I did a double!. I've been taking a pre-pointe class but I haven't been on pointe yet!. So my question is, is that really good that I can do that, or is it just pretty normal!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should ask your teacher before you decide to go onto pointe, it already seems like you have strong ankles and good technique!.!.!.!.

since you have taken pre pointe classes, you might be able to get onto pointe soon!.!.

Generally it means you are ready to go on pointe!.

If you have a friend that cant roll up onto pointe if probably means that her feet and ankles are not strong enough!. She wasnt ready to go on pointe!.

Many girls who struggle with pointe are just not ready or have a teacher who is not properly instructing them!. Some people "get it" easier than others!.

also, using your friends pointe shoes is not a good idea!. Besides the fact its dangerous to do unsupervised (which Im sure you know) It is not good for your friends shoes to have you wear them!. Pointe shoes break in very specifically to the wearers foot!. By wearing them (even for a short while) you are putting stress on areas of the shoe that her foot doesnt stress (especially if you have strong flexible feet)!. It will shorten the life of her shoe, which isnt fair to her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it depends on the technique that you rolled up and did the pirouette, the rolling up isn't too hard if you have broken-in shoes but pirouettes are harder for some people

talk to your teacher about starting pointe , but only if you want to, i wouldn't suggest it but if you're over 12, have solid technique, and your feet are slowing down with growing there's a chance that it might work outWww@QuestionHome@Com

Ok, one thing - NEVER try on someone elses pointe shoes without consulting your teacher!. That is sooo dangerous!. And never try going up en pointe in barefeet, socks, ballet slippers etc!. YOU NEED PERMISSION FROM YOUR TEACHER!. THERE IS A REASONS YOU ARE NOT EN POINTE YET!. Only your teacher knows when you are ready!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe your friend's teachers werent strict enough!. At our studio we have a new pointe group that never did pre-pointe or anything and they have a dance that does quads and leaps on pointe (its their 1st year)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It actually sounds like your friends are really far behind!. When you get put into pointe, sounds like you'll be ready!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You shouldn't do anything w/o talking to your teacher!. She'll know the best!. and next time make sure your ankles are strong enough to go on pointe! which obousley your fine, but just to be sure!! Good luck! :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends!. It depends on how long you've been dancing and how strong your feet are!. I'd say it's good, but talk to your teacher!. She would be the best judge!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
