Question: Does it damge your feet to dance on pointe!?

It depends!. There's really no straight answer!.

It will, if you're too heavy!. If your bones are weak!. If you haven't strengthened the muscles in your feet with enough barre and center work!. If you force yourself to practice too much with bad technique!. Or if you are just unlucky!.

In order to avoid some of these problems, like mashing the bones together and preventing proper growth, or damaging your feet because of lack of practice, teachers usually hold students back from pointe dancing until about the age of twelve or so!. By that time, you've done a large part of the growing you're going to do, so it's less stunting, and the bones are no longer as malleable and therefore as prone to being damaged!. also, it allows for time for students to strengthen their feet properly with exercises!.

I started ballet when I was four or five!. I started doing barre exercises on pointe when I was in seventh grade - that's just under twelve for me, because I was born late in the year!. I progressed, along with everyone else in my class, to exercises in center with pointe shoes, where it was discovered that my toes didn't point properly, making it pretty much impossible to dance en pointe without damaging my feet!. Not only that, but I was going through puberty and putting on weight!. I had to stop - I ended up quitting!.

Hopefully, you've trained enough and with the proper techniques, so you won't have the problems I did!. If you take care, you won't permanently damage your feet!. (Calluses and the like are inevitable, so I'm not even going to include those problems here!. You'll get them, period!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It can be painful and lead to soem problems if the child starts too young with underdeveloped metarasals and leg strength, or fi the person continually uses shoes and pads that aren't the right fit for their foot!.

That said, longevity-wise, dancers always end up with aches and pains, some of them permanenet, but generally speaking, being careful and taking care of the body prevents a lot fo those issues!. I've danced for 22 years and my feet are fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if the person above me has been dancing for a long time, and not had their feet damaged, they are very lucky!.
You will get blisters and they willl reallly badly hurt when you first start, but your feet will get used to it, and you can possibly get callouses, bunions etc!.
However there are preventative measures you can use, back when i danced pointe, i used 'ouch pouches' they slip onto your toe section and provide padding!.!.!.
also a when i started i began soaking my feet in methylated spirits, when your dedicated you will do anything to strengthen your feet!.
the source i have attached will provide you with some of the products available to prevent your toes from getting hurt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on how often you dance, and what kind of shoes and padding you have!. Many people get blisters and bunions!. If your a pro dancer, your feet are definatly not going to look the greatest!. Some people are lucky and pointe doesn't do anything to their feet=D If you start way too young (when your 8 years old or something) then your feet might get deformed and ugly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes and no!. Nothing serious, but many are know to have arthritus in the arches!. My feet cramp all the time because iv'e built up the muscles in my feet "larger" than normal!. I dont get blisters but many of my "bun-head" friends do some have gotten them so bad they've left huge scars! =( Many of us also get ingrown toe nails that we have to get surgically removed, but hey that's the price you pay for loving ballet!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It could, if you where taught wrong, or ur feet werent ready when u got them!. all u get are bad blisters and bunions, u'll live with those!. it also makes them sore!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
