What the others have said are what I would consider the basics of doing excellent ballet and jazz turns!. In addition to their advice:
When you are holding your arms, you want to have energy in them so that your back muscles engage (especially the ones surrounding your shoulders)!. To get this effect, reach your arms straight forward (like a zombie)!. Then reach out as though you were trying to grab something!. You should feel your shoulders tighten!. Keep that energy when you bend your elbows and lower your hands to about where your lowest ribs are!. This is create a nice looking and well balanced turn!.

also, when you are beginning to take the turn and most likely have one of your arms in second position, DO NOT extend your ala seconde arm behind you!. If you do this, you will lose the extended feeling in your back and it will look ugly!. Plus, most dancers let their arm go off to the back because they are planning on swinging it back to the front to get momentum!. This is not good because it will only throw off your balance and make you wobble!. Instead, try pushing off more with your back foot and quickly bring it to the knee!.

Squeeze your abdomen and butt so your muscles are tense!. It will help you with your balance!. Your arms should be in a circle as if your holding a Beach Ball!. Keep your toe pointed and directly under your knee bone!. Make sure your prep to your turn is strong and you'll just have to keep practicing until you get better balance and can keep going!. Don't forget to spot! (that means keep focused on something in front of you and try to look at it as much as possible while your turning!. You have to whip your head around so you can see it while your on the opposite side of where you started)Www@QuestionHome@Com
