tap is mostly about the rhythm, so you have to be able to "feel" the beat of the song!. also, you have to make sure you have a good pair of tap shoes!. bad quality shoes will get worn out easy, and there are some places out there with good shoes for low prices (try Liberts)!.

Check your local dance studios and ask if they have a beginning class!. Are you a "student" in high school!? They'll have a class for you, though it might have a few younger students!. If you're an adult, most people will be out of high school, and you'll fit in fine!.

Sure, you can watch and attempt to do the streps from a site, but if you don't know what you're doing, it isn't worth it!. Learn the basics from a person first so you have first-hand knowledge and experience, and then you can check out tap sites, tapes and DVDs!.
