Jump right in. I would start getting in shape right now. You need stretch, strength and endurance to be good at any dance. You could start going out for a jog and then follow it with stretching exercises. [Stay in each shape for 30 seconds.] Do not force the stretch. Exhale and go a little deeper into the stretch. Relax the pain away, and again go a little deeper into the stretch. Do not get discouraged. You will get stretched out, but it will take 6 months of work. Do crunches and push ups. Move everyday. Dance for fun. Dance is a lot of work. It takes a commitment. It can be frustrating, but stick with it. You will love it. I am sending you a link for dance stretches. You will not be expected to do all of these. Choose some of the shapes and start stretching.
People who are not flexible at all can become so.
