Position:Home>Dancing> Interest in dancing but lost on how to start.?

Question:A few of my friends who are fairly good at dancing to virtually anything really want me to get into it with them. I've just never understood dancing very well and I'm lost on how to start. I would just move to the beat and see where I go from there but it feels so awkward.

I don't get embarrassed that easily but dancing does it for me, and around other people I have a hard time taking myself seriously doing it.

So my question to you dancers: How did you start and are there some ways I can practice it by myself with hope of actually improving?

Y'know, i'm wondering if you're talking about dancing as in at a studio, or dancing like in clubs or just to music...I have a feeling you're talking about the latter. Seriously. Just have fun. Let loose. Don't give a **** about what other people think of you, cause when you just have the music right there in your ear and you find your groove, you've got it! People watch because they are envious that you can have so much fun doing what you're doing. If you want to practice, find some time when you're alone in your house, blast super loud fun music, and just let go. Go crazy.

Aaaaaaaaaand if you're talking about dancing at a studio, that means enrolling in class. That's basically it. =P

have fun!

Do you have a dance program at your school? A lot seem to have beginners dance classes where anyone can get in. Also, tons of dance studios offer beginners classes for all ages. I know that there are adult, teen, and kid beginner classes at all the dance studios around me. I've even tried one. There great, and you never know, you could be the best one there.
The more you practice in a dance studio or even alone in your room, the better you will get. Stretch so you can become more flexible and the more you do it, the better you will get. I promise. Good luck with everything!

I started with ballet it branches out to anything
but i know many people find jazz less intimidating
you can try buying like training dvds
or youtube..
you could try and be tutored privately.
