Position:Home>Dancing> I've Got a question about the Foxtrot and about Our first dance at my weddin

Question:I'm taking dancing lessons for my wedding. I just had my first one yesterday. We started to learn the Foxtrot (slow). My instructor told me to look at songs that you would be able to do the foxtrot to. I have a couple questions. Could you dance forever and ever amen (by Randy Travis), using the Foxtrot (or would that be two quick for a first dance at a wedding. Also, what are some other good songs for a first dance (in which I would be doing the foxtrot)? I'd appreciate any help.

Try watching Dancing with the stars. They fit the dances to music I would never have thought of using for that style. Last night Marlee Matlin did a Viennese Waltz to She's Always a Woman.

Forever and Ever seems too fast for a Foxtrot, or maybe just the wrong rythmn. A Texas Two-Step would fit that music better. Foxtrot rythmn is slow slow quick quick, and two step is slow slow quick quick quick quick. If you have a recording of that song, try it! Maybe take it with you to your next class and see what the instructor thinks. Does the instructor have some suggestions?

By the way, I'm VERY impressed you're learning to dance for your reception. My ex-husband sort of rocked me in a circle for a few minutes. Actually, that was much better than when he let loose after a few drinks. He just looked like an idiot then.

I don't know too much about Randy Travis, but I did dance American and International style foxtrot. So I know a few of the best foxtrot hits for you.....

"I'm Beginning To See The Light" (Natalie Cole)
"Moondance" (Van Morrison)
"Witchcraft" (Frank Sinatra)

if you want a quick song try the quick-step!!

The slow Foxtrot is a beautiful dance, and a great choice. Forever and Ever Amen is a good song, but it's really a two-step.

Here are a few examples of the slow Fox Trot:
Dream A Little Dream Of Me - Des O'Conner
All I Need Is You - Des O'Conner
Magic Moments - Perry Como
I Hadn't Anyone 'til You - Lena Horne
There's A Rainbow Round My Shoulder - Bobby Darin

I hope this helps!
