Position:Home>Dancing> Dancer or Doctor?

Question:i'm only 14, been dancing since 2 1/2 years. i'm asian and therefore my parents have pushed me to achieve academic success. they've encouraged and nutured my dance since a young age and i love it

i am, however, quite intelligent. (compared with the rest of the country) i'm in year 9 at a selective school and i'm starting to struggle with dancing and school. my parents want me to do school, but i don't want to let go of dance. i want so desperately to make my parents proud and it means more to me than what i want. i want to do well at school, i believe academic success is the key, but i just can't imagine not dancing.

right now, there is a company interested in me, they are willing to consider taking me after i finish school, but there's no way i can maintain a standard of ballet and do well at school. they might not even take me after all that. should i take a chance and dance?

or take school more seriously and either drop dance completely or do it on a casual basis

If I were you, I would focus more on academics while still dancing whenever you have the time for it. You definitely shouldn't give it up if it's what you love. However many people struggle when looking for a job as a dancer. If you have a good education, there are endless career opportunities for you in the future.

he is the dancer.

The potential for a dance career is limited to a time frame, can you dance for a few years and go to school part time? Or dance pro for a few years then go to school? College is open forever, the window to dance isnt.
