Question:Thanks for clicking here! And even bigger thanks if you answer. I take dance as one of my electives in school and tomorrow we have to bring stirrup tights for a grade as part of our costume for the spring show in 2 weeks. I tried all week to find them but every dance store was out of stock and only had little kids sizes and it took 2 weeks to ship and i didnt have the time. I have regular tights so is there anyway i can cut the toe and heel part to make them stirrup tights without damaging or riping the entire foot part of the tights? Please i need help!!!

sewing an elastic to the bottom of your tights is prolly a bad idea, you cant just sew something to them and not expect them to rip. once you start moving, the thread will pull out and send a huge run up your tights.
your better off ordering them offline from Discound Dance Supply, or danskin er sometihng... but in the meantime id follow others instructions about making marks where cutting is needed, be sure not to cut too much as the ends will deffinately roll up. think before you cut =D and definately put clear nailpolish on the ends, or freycheck.

good luck!!! =)

yes,but after you're done cutting the tights put clear nail polish on the edge to keep from fraying.

BE VERY CARFUL PUT THEM ON YOUR FEET MARK A DOTTED LINE AND CUT THERE VERY CARFULY

sorry for the caps

instead of cutting, could you just add a piece of elastic to the sides to make them look like stirrups? If not would there be a way to cut out the foot part and add the elastic?

Your explanation is plausible--and I would accept it. Prove to your teacher that you have put in an order for the stirrup tights and that you will have them in time for the spring show. In fairness, she should understand and give you a break.

BTW, you could have your mom order then over the Internet and have them in a week.

Good luck.

Yes, but . . . .

Cut very carefully, cut less than you think you need to cut (you can always cut more!). Its hard to cut tights accuratly because of the way they stretch around your foot and leg so go slow and think before you cut.

Paint the cut edges in fraycheck or clear nail polish to keep it from running. the cut edges will probably roll a bit.

Why not hit the fabric store and buy some 1" wide elastic that matches the tights, and take the tights and the elastic to the local "alterations shop" and let them cut off the foot, hem up the bottom and attach the elastic?
