traditionally not.

but I consider dancers to be athletes in every sense of the word: we work hard and are probably twice as sore as regular sports.

We have to work at least three times harder on these accounts:
~We must move fluidly and musically while still sweating and working our little rumps off
~We can't look overbuilt -- those football players can be ripped and buff, but we can't show our muscles!
~We must be flexible and supple
~We have to attend to a strict diet
~We have to attend to a strict code of etiquette in the classroom
~We have to make our pain look elegant and effortless, while others can show their pain. This is a double whammy because people don't know we're in pain, so they think dance is easy.
~We must endure constant insults and taunts regarding our grace and "effortlessness"

so, in my opinion, I think the title of "sport" is undeserving of dance. It doesn't do it justice, because calling it a sport would imply we work just as hard as football/baseball/swimming/soccer/etc players, when in fact we work at least three times harder.

its a sport it works muscles, balance, core. and its good cardio in some cases.

it does take a lot of hard work and is more difficult and strenuous than many sports but dance is a art. sports are just like running and competing for no purpose really. an art can express emotion and can also tell a story. in my oppinion, dance is better than a sport.

I think it's a sport because we train just as hard as footballers and football is a sport.

of course it is a sport also in england for sport A-level you can be assesed in it therefore it is classed as a sport in england!!

In my opinion, I feel dance is WAY more than a sport. It's more of a fine art. Dance can be hardcore but can also be very fluid and soft.

Just because it's physical doesn't mean it's a sport. Dance is an ART. To call it a simple sport doesn't do it justice. It's not just movement. You need to add artistry and emotion to it for it to actually be dance.

it is because of all of the hard work, blood, and sweat. but its also an artform because of the beauty. :D

dance is referred to be called an "art". there is no such thing as classical football so why would there be classical dance? besides, sports aren't played in theater with the lights off and music.
