Question:Well, when I see a dancer I see someone who is SUPER skinny!! I'm skinny, I weigh 95 and I'm 12. But I see all of these super tall and skinny dancers, does that mean you have to be skinny to be a good dancer. I'm getting REALLY self concious!!!

No, because if you are on the verg of being anorexic kind of skinny, then you cannot be a good dancer cuz you will be weak and pass out. No dancer is anorexic, and none of them are too skinny. They just dance so much, that their body just doesn't have fat lol! Pro dancers dance so many hours a day becuase it's their job, their way of making money. I know a gymast who is 5'1 and she weighs 130 pounds. This doesn't affect her in anyway. It's like this for every sport, weight and body image doesn't matter. Please don't be self concious becuase I don't want you to develop an eating disorder or have a low self esteem. You are a perfect weight and I'm sure you will be an amazing dancer. Good Luck and God Bless!!!:)

no u dont have to be super skinny. pro ballerinas are super skinny cuz they eat healthy and and dance off five times more than they eat. dont be self concious.

No you don't have to be super skinny to dance. Dancing is something anyone can do regardless of height or weight. Someone can be a great dancer and be short, tall, skinny, fat, it does not really matter. Now if you are thinking about becoming a professional dancer then they have higher standards but at age 12 I do not think you have anything to worry about if that is what you have in mind for your future. You will grow, don't worry.

definitely not, dear. my old ballet teacher was amazing and he was EXTREMELY overweight. The cook who wanted to be a hiphopdancer in High School Musical wasn't super skinny. Youre probably just thinking of the "stereotypical ballet anorexic dancer." but the answer is DEFINITELY NOT!!!!!!! Though i can't think of anyone right now on the professional level but i can assure you that you don't have to be SUPER skinny. Best of luck and have confidence! As a dancer, i can honestly tell you that a dancer doesn't just require skill but also confidence. CONFIDENCE HELPS MAKE THE DANCER!

You definitely do NOT have to be skinny! Different types of dancing do have different "classic" body types. But even in ballet, which traditionally has featured slender dancers, we're seeing a great range of physical characteristics. In competitive Irish dance "skinny" can actually work against you because some adjudicators prefer dancers who look substantial and strong, rather than lithe and delicate. And of course in belly dance, the more wiggly the better!

In my humble opinion, what makes a dancer outstanding -- beyond skill, form and agility -- is an attitude of confidence, and that transcends a person's physique.

heck no. some of the best dancers i know are not skinny. being a good dancer is more about technique than size or weight, but having a dancer body does help to some extent.

NO OF COURSE NOT! you have to have some muscles in order to lift your leg and hold it, or do.... ANYTHING! dont be self conscience!!!
