Question:What is the fastest way to strengthen your ankles for pointe or ballet. I'm 13 and I don't have dance experience (only gymnastics) and I really want to do pointe eventually. I know therabands help, but is there something else?

1. do lots of releves/eleves.
2. sit and put your feet under something (ie. couch) and scoot down so your legs are straight and hold it.
3. tendus and degajes
4. flex and point you foot

:)

During all dance classes your teacher/instructor will include small ankle stretches....even if you don't notice!!!

lots of experience is helpful too.....but gymnastics probably helped you!!

~hope this helps!!

Strong ankles are crucial for pointe. If you don't have them, you can't do it. So- I suggest you just go to a professional dance teacher for ballet. She will give the class ankle excersizes all the time. You may not notice them directly, but they will be provided. Within a few years if you work hard and dedicate time to it, you will be on pointe. Trust me, all the work is worth it.

Therabands are really the fastest way. But you still have to put a lot of time into it. I would say Minimum 15 minutes a day. Also, make sure that you are keeping your foot straight when you use the theraband.

Just taking a Ballet classes really strengthens your ankles. For pointe work you should be taking at least 3 classes a week. If you up your classes now, it will help you get there.

im in the same boat only i have done ballet for a while. you dont go on point until your teacher seggusts it which is a least a few years away maybe when your 16. just strech your ankles a lot and practice walking in relevae(sp) good luck!

If you don't have any dance expierence, don't expect to do pointe any time soon. It takes years of ballet on flats in order to move up to pointe. I had to take ballet for 8 years until my instructor let me do pointe. Sure, you can do some things in order to prep your ankles, but it will be a while until you can actually use pointe shoes.

Keep your ankles supple and make sure you stretch your ankles when you warm up. Even walking round the house on your tip toes helps to strengthen them because you are relying on them. Also do lots of releves and eleves
