Position:Home>Dancing> Need fun ideas for PRACTICING DANCE???

Question:Okay, I am making a list of things that i will do to become a better dancer, such as "Every time before i go into the kitchen to get a soda, i will stretch my splitz on both sides", and things like that. I am taking beginning jazz and ballet classes (1st year) and advanced hip hop (most advanced class in the studio)

Any good fun, realistic, motivating ideas for my list that i can stick with???

P.S. The reason that i am doing this is because i'm 14 and am very busy with school and stuff and need things that can fit into my schedule, so think of what goes into a 14 year old girl's schedule!! THANK YOU!!!

i am a 14 year old dancer too. what i do is when i do my homework or am watching TV i sit on the floor with my legs spread apart(it helps) just remember that everyone can do the splits it is just a matter of stretching hard enough. other things you can do is after you get home from school(if you get something to eat) push you self to stretch out all of your splits before you can get something. use your imagination.

Try "any time you turn on the TV, practice ___ for five min" you can try leg holds for flexibility and try overextending ur splitz (put a pillow or something under ur front leg. It hurst more but it pays off big time". Also, if u have 2 read a book 4 school, prop it upright while u strech in front of it. I know it says ur not in kick line, but i joined it two years ago and it REALLY helped my leg strength. I would try just kicking up and down to a fast beat, and it will kill 4 sure, but if u go 2 a studio that does kick, ask some of those coaches for kick advice. It really does pay off.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!

-When youre watching TV, stretch, especially your splits. Same thing goes if youre the kinda girl who does homework on the floor.

-Walk around in releve as much as you can without running the risk of being sent to the looney bin!

-This is my biggie...when youre on the phone, stand near a wall and so some basic barre warm ups, tendu jete, battement, things like that

-To this day when I'm looking at something..for example, I'm debating what to get at the griocery store, I stand in cou de pied, or do petit battements. I think it was origionally a nervous habit lol

→Every time you answer a question on Y!A you have to hold your splits for 30 seconds lol ;]

→When I was trying to get my splits all those years ago, every time I was talking at home I just had to hold my split (I talk a lot so it worked lol). Maybe you could do this to?

→Try lunges, instead of walking. Lunges are where you have one leg in front, one behind and you bend, your front leg should be making a right angle and you knee should nearly touch the floor. Step through with the back leg and repeat. These REALLY build up those leg muscles.

→Whenever you listen to your iPod/MP3 or music in general practice your dance routines.

I hope this helps :) Good Luck with the splits-you will get there!

ok whenever i walk down to the kitchen, through the halway i always do a grand jete- leap- and whenever i walk in to myroom i always do a plie. and before i go to bed i do each of my splits for 5 seconds each. whenever i sit down i pointe and felx my toes.

i do them all the time ..... its become a habit

Remembering the dance routines is a matter of experience, you will get better as you memorize more of them. But in the mean time, before every practice, concentrate for one minute and "dance" through it in your mind. It will train your focus. If your dance routines are particularly new, also do this right after the practice and at some point during the day. It only takes 2-3 minutes.
If you have particular weaknesses - work on them. Run or bike if you need to improve your stamina. I always take stairs not elevator, and if i have an extra couple of minutes I run back and forth twice. If you need to improve flexibility remember that you need to stretch every day (but don't drink soda every day LOL).
Wear comfortable shoes so you can walk on you toes or do other exercises whenever you have an opportunity. Even simple pointing and flexing your toes is a good exercise.
But with all that, remeber to not get too distracted by dancing from school and other things.
