what does Variation mean in dance???

During a dance you have your different sections of it, right? A transition is the movement between these sections. For example, if you have just finished a turn section you transition out of them into your next step or skill.

Variation in a dance could be defined in different ways. The style of dance can vary, whether you are doing floor work or not, whether you are hitting a movement with a lot of energy or slowly moving through it. Tempo, style, expression, type of movement is all variation.

Hope I helped! :)

a transition is the part in between poses. dance is all about the movement from one pose to the next, and these are the transitions. that can be steps or chasses etc.

a variation is a solo or pas de deux or some type of a section from a ballet. for example the "Sugar Plum Fairy Variation" is the piece that the sugar plum fairy dances in the Nutcracker. these variations will be rehearsed and used in places such as competitions or auditions. the steps are generally the same because there are only so many widely accepted choreographies of a certain ballet.

i hope that helped. sorry about the whole ballet schpeel (if you weren't referring to that)

a transition in a dance is how you move from one "big move" to another. You have fouttee turns, and then you have to go across stage to go a pique arabesque. you can't just walk over and then continue the dance. the in-between steps are part of the dance as well.

variation could mean a short ballet, usually with no story, just dancing to the music.
or in musical terms, such as "variations on a theme of paganini" it means a composers take on another's work.
