What styles are good for:

-Ballet is great for technique. Most steps in all styles of dance are initially from a ballet step and are just a little modification. Ballet also is great for strength.
-Jazz is great fun. You also do lots of dance moves that you can do when you go to disco's etc.
-Tap is great because it's easy and the steps start and something simple and the more advanced ones are just harder versions of the simple ones.
-Contemporary is great because it is all about breaking rules.
I can't tell you which stlye to take because I don't know whta style you would like. On "So You Think You Can Dance", they have many styles for example they have contemporary, jazz, hip hop, latin, ballroom etc. My advice would be to pick something you think you might like (research it on the net) then give it a trial lesson and if you don't like it try it somewhere else, or try a new style. Dancing is so much fun and if you don't like something at the beginning, there are so many different styles you could try instead.

take ballet,jazz and hip hop..

ballet is very important because it's where you develop "technique"

on so u think u can dance is things like hip hop jazz and contemporary

also ballet is essential coz it give u technique for ebvery dance u do...but u dnt have to do it if u dnt want to.. its ur choice

I would start with modern or freestyle, see how you like that and then maybe add ballet or tap or something

A lot of whats on that show is modern, but they are assigned a lot of different styles. Ballet is the foundation of all dance so you may want to start there!

I definitely don't think you are too old. I was just telling my husband that I wish we knew a nice, good teenager to teach our eight year old to dance at our house. We knew the perfect girl, but she's in her twenties now and too busy, I'm sure. I think it would be great for you though! Good luck!
