Position:Home>Dancing> Ballroom dance?

Question:Ballroom dance, refers collectively to a set of partner dances, which originated in the Western world and are now enjoyed both socially and competitively around the globe.

While historically ballroom dance may refer to any form of formal social dancing as recreation, with the eminence of dancesport in modern times the term has become much narrower in scope, usually referring specifically to the International Standard and International Latin style dances (see dance groupings below).

so ballroom dance is originated in western world but they use international Latin style dance ???
the confusing part for me, is latin part of western ? if no, why they use latin style ? cuz it says its originated from western . . . if possible explain it little bit detail for me ok . .thx

If you think of the era when competitive ballroom really became popular - 50s and 60s you will understand why Latin in part of western. Dances like Cha Cha Cha, Rumba were quite trendy. It was only natural to compete in these dances as well as in "purely european" dances like Slow Waltz and Vienneze Waltz. It is all about what was popular at the time.

The Latin part is very much western. Paso doble is either from southern France or northern Spain and certainly mimics Spanish bullfighting. The others are British interpretations of dances from Brazil (samba), Cuba (rumba and cha cha), and the US (jive). All are very much in the western hemisphere.
The Standard dances (foxtrot, waltz, tango, quickstep, and Viennese waltz) are also western in origin.
