Position:Home>Dancing> Am I too old...?

Question:I have always enjoyed dancing, but when I was younger I wasn't particularly good at sticking to things. Recently, I have aquired a much stronger interest (in belly dance, break dance, ballet) but I've heard that you really need to start young. By young, do they mean five or six year olds? I'm fourteen, and I'm scared that I may be too old! Thank you.

well youre never too old. Im 14 and im starting guitar now

you are never too old to dance.
sign up for some classes now!

You are still a teenager its not like youre 35 or something if you stick to those dancing classes you could get the hang of like you would if you started younger than 14

Yes it helps to start at a younger age but since u r ONLY 14 or so u say then u should b fine. I started when i was 2 and i'm still in it and i meet many new people around your age that r just now starting adn they have came so far. You should b fine so i say follow your dream and dance, dance, dance!

Well, if you watched the last American version of So you think you can dance, Sabra (who was a contestant) said that she started at around 13 while other dancers started at around 3 and Sabra won and became America's favorite dancer.

so it's not quantity, it's quality.

no ur not to old

i started ballet wen i was 13 and im like the best in my class ...and im 14 now :)))

Whoever told you that you need to begin when you are six was messed up in their head. Go for it! You are definitely not too old, ever!

No, you're never too old....

What you need to realise is two things:
If you're not a natural now, you have to realise that you'll never be able to make a career at it. So take a few lessons, see how you measure up, and if you're poor, realise that it will always be an "extra-curricular activity" for you. Honestly? It's a great alternative to the gym, and so much more fun then running on a treadmill!!

If you are good, at your age, with not training, the sky is the limit. You see loads of people on Dance who have never had formal training and can really move. I'm not half as good as them, and did 10+ years of dance....and they just rock up one day, and they're fantastic. It's like signing to some degree. You're either born with it, or you can learn it. Some people just can't do it to save their lives!

Have fun!

Honestly I do not think there is a age restriction. It is a matter of self will power to achieve a routine Go for it !!!!!!!!!

No Way! You're not too old. If you were 35 and asking that question it would be a yes, but not at 14. I'm 14 and took dance when I was younger and I have recently become reinterested in it, and have been able to pick it up again fairly easily.

-most kids that started piano with my teacher were like 7 when they started
-i was 12
-i am now the 4th farthest out of all the other kids
-she has almost 50 students
-i think that's a good lesson
GOOD LUCK!!!

-you are never too old to learn anything

thats acctualy a good age to start. ur never too old to start dance, and its just BETTER to start earlier. but theres some famous dancers that started dance in college and are amazing dancers, even better dancers than the ones that started when they were 2. hope i helped! :D

no one is never too old to dance...NO ONE!!!!!!

You obviously have a goal. Now all you have to do is reach it. With a sport like dance there is no certain age to start at. At the company I go to there are adults just starting dance up again or for their first time. The best advice I can give you is to reach your goal, try dance out, and see if that's what you really like to do!!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!

there should be beginner classes for all ages. the important thing is to find something you enjoy doing and have a passion for. and beisdes, whats the worst thing that could happen if you decide to try again?
