Position:Home>Dancing> My three-year-old is starting ballet class, should he have a "split-sole&qu

Question:My son is going to be starting ballet class, so I went online to order him shoes, but some of the children's shoes have what they call a "split sole" and some do not. Which does he need? What is the purpose of the "split-sole" shoes?

Please don't say, "ask the instructor," because I can't. She won't be available to speak with until next Friday and I need to order the shoes now so they're here in time. I tried asking other staff members at the facility, but they didn't know anything about the dress code for the classes. Worse case senario, I get the wrong kind and have to order new ones and he wears the wrong shoes for a couple of weeks until the new ones arrive, but at least he'll have something on his feet.

Get normal soled shoes... not the split sole. Split sole is for stuff like jazz dancers (a pad at the top and a pad at the heal), the regular soles are full even over the arch of the foot and a beginner needs that because it provides proper arch support

For younger kids you should just get the normal kind. Thats what I wore when I was 3 years old and so did everyone else. Split sole shoes are more expensive (atleast where I used to shop) and their for more advanced dancers. I don't think it would be a problem if you bought him the split sole but I would go with the normal kind:)

I would get your son normal sole shoes for ballet, split sole shoes are used more in contempary, jazz, modern, hip hop etc. Split sole shoes are more expensive anyway, so you would be saving that all important cash! Lol. if your son does want to join a class that would be more suited to split soles though, do not buy him them until you are both confident in that class, because you may find yourself buying a £70 pair of shoes that will never be used.

i hoped this helped.

At my dance studio, the dress code is split-sole ballet shoes. It really depends on your studio. I'm sure some of the other parents are wondering which type too.

i wouldnt, generally u should just go with a normal full sole one. really u get split soled shoes for jazz or modern

I wouldn't.I didn't get split sole until I was 9. They're meant more for older kids and jazz.

No you need to get single sole shoes... split sole is for advanced or older children. He needs a single sole.. no split sole..

The purpose of split soles are that they have soles on the heel and ball of your feet to be able to point your feet better and flexability...
The difference between single and split is that the sole on a single sole covers the whole bottom letting the person point their foot to a certain way.. which helps install NOT sickiling their foot... which is a bad thing..

So... for your three year old get single sole!

No split-sole shoes are for people who are more advanced in ballet. I would start him out with a full-sole because it helps strengthen the foot. and then if her really likes ballet and he keeps dancing then first ask the instructor (not now but later if he really likes ballet) if he's ready for split-sole.
Good Luck!
hope this helps!

I'm a ballerina and I love split sole. Get split sole, their easier to move in and they're not as stiff. Full sole shoes aren't as good and arches don't look as good. Men primarily wear split sole too.
