Position:Home>Dancing> 2 questions!!! Swing and the splits??

Question:Ok. Q #1:
I take ballet (if that means anything :D) and I really want to learn swing as well. I was wondering if it's hard or easy to catch onto. Is it a lot of fun? I know the basic step and like it so far :)

Q #2:

I want to be able to lift my legs higher and hold longer in ballet. I can't do the splits though! Is there a certain stretch or something that helps with getting the splits down fast?

Thanks! :)

Q#1:swing is work but it is fun once you got the steps down which all depends on how you learn and how fast you are of a learner.
Q#2 What you do is you sit with your legs open into a straddle (as far as you can get them) facing a wall. Then line your legs and body up while you are sitting with your legs open, then put your hands behind you and push forward and hold, this helps stretching the inner thigh muscles and joints. for other splits like regular one leg in front, one in the back, just go down as far as you can and hold for about 10sec. then each day increase the amount you hold by 2-3 seconds, and make sure you push further down for both splits every day. then after a while you will be in a full spit and be able to hold it for a long time. I used it when i needed help on splits, and can gladly say i can do both splits and hold it for 3Min's.

hahaha, i am in the same position as you... i will be checking this ?, for these answers... i would love to know!!

Some people, no matter what, can't do the splits. It is truly physically impossible for them to do so. At the oposite end of the spectrum, you have Rhythmic Gymnasts. When you do splits, don't bounce and it should hurt.

Q#1: Depends on the type of swing, I do east coast swing and it is pretty easy. It was derived from west coast swing(which I don't know anything about) because that was too hard, and that was based on Lindy hop because that was too hard. I have done the very basic Lindy, and that is fun and looks really awesome, but is really hard to do.

I would assume the basic step you know is east coast (left-two right-two rock-step(which is just a quick left-right(all opposite for girls))). I would say this is really easy and fun to learn (especially for girls, since all you have to do is be led), especially if you can find a good group of people/person to learn from (I got lucky and have an old wrestling coach that does it :D and an awesome group that does it on Tuesdays in Grand Rapids)

Long story short: definitely stick with the Swing, it is fun and plenty easy.

Q#2: I can only assume that the stretch I have done since first grade where you hold your legs at 11-10 o'clock and 1-2 o'clock (depending on your flexibility) and fold yourself forward, either standing or sitting...but that is only a guess

if you think swing looks fun then chances are you enjoy it enough and will be able to catch on to
ok for the splits you are going to have to stretch everyday and push yourself hard you can make your body do anything you want it to. while watching tv or doing homework sit in the splits and push yourself past where it feel comfy hold it for like a minute then rest and switch to the other side dont forget to do other stretchs as well
