okay first let me say somthing about joseph b. cheerleading is a sport, because there are competitions, and opponants. soooo on with the question

I think cheerleading is an amazing sport because the girls are extremely fit and pretty. they practice alot and work hard. I am willing to make sacrafices for my team and do alot of whatever it takes to make it. The girls cheer on our sports teams and our school. They always try their hardest and are role models for many. I want to be a cheerleader for our school so i can have someone look up to me like i looked up to the cheerleaders before me. No matter how hard the work is and how frusterated or angry i get i will not give up and i will listen to my coaches and peers for they are the ones who know what they are doing. I would like to be a cheerleader because cheering is somthing i am passionate about(whether u are expirenced or not)

Cheerleading is a great way to dance in a group, have fun and make lots of friends.

Cheerleading has evolved over the years from an extra-cirricular activity with the purpose of motivating spectators to an intense, competitive activity. Not only is it exremely demanding physically, but it's time consuming and requires the exact coordination of twenty or more girls.

But is cheerleading an actual sport?

Well, to sum it up in one word, no, but first hear me out.

Cheerleaders are athletes without a doubt. I graduated from a High School where the cheerleading squad is the cheerleading squad to beat. They practice every day after school for several hours, just like other sports teams. They exercise and lift weights. Again, another activity common to most sports teams. They learn gymnastics, dozens of cheers and dances and compete on regional, state and national levels. Our cheerleading squad even calls extra practices on weekends, hires trainers and modifies their routines for different competitions.

So what's not sports-like about this activity?

Although many more cheerleading squads are competing, which is a great thing, not enough squads are going the distance to make cheerleading an official sport. The Women's Sports Foundation says that to be considered a sport it has to be "a contest or competition against or with an opponent." So pretty much, the sole purpose of the activity is to compete.
When a school creates a basketball program, they create that program for the sole purpose of competing. No matter how much you hate it, cheerleading squads are not created just to compete. Although there are exceptions, if the football and basketball teams were elimated from the sport's progam then most schools would terminate the cheerleading squad as well.
There is no doubt that many girls join cheerleading squads purely for the competitive nature of the activity, but that doesn't make it a sport. They were created to support the team, whether they actually like to or not.
Sorry girls.

You could write how cheerleading alwasy gets ppl up and excited. You could write how cheerleading makes you feel

well if it is an essay that you need to write on what you WANT to do cheerleading, it is not up to anyone but you to no why you want to join a squad.I am a cheerleader myself and all i can say is that it is so much FUN.The girls i cheerlead with are so enjoyable. You meet so many new people and make many new frindships. It keeps you fit, healthy, strong, flexible and defently strong and much more! Competitons make you more confident!!Although the cost of cheerleading is rather large(depending on where you are situated). You must eat healty so you can work to you best at all practices and competitions.I'm not sure what else i can say to help you but doin cheerleading has been the best sport that i have ever done! Its amazying and it all ways seems to amaze me the things we can do as a squad and individuals! Its the best i hope you give it a go! illeee rach.

To the gentleman who for some reason brought up the business about cheerleading not being a sport we're all aware of that opinion, though I appreciate your support and understanding of how difficult it is. However, with the rise of not only competitive teams which do nothing but compete (no rah-rah for other teams going on there at all) and the interpretation of Title IX by the governing bodies of school sports in about half the states in the USA which identified cheerleading as a sport, I'm not sure your theory of cheer-as-not-a-sport holds. :^)

To the Questioner: It would be good to say something about how you want to boost school spirit and be an an ambassador of the school to the community. Talk about pep rally ideas, making signs, or encouraging people to wear school colors on game day for the first one, and organizing charity events or sidewalk clean-ups for the second. You get the idea.

Talk about what your favorite part of cheer is: tumbling, stunting, dancing, etc and why you would be thrilled to be on the team to pursue that interest and use it to get the crowd worked up at games.

Make sure you proofread it and make it as streamlined and coherent as possible, because that will impress the coach/judges who will eventually be reading it.

Good luck!
