flexibilty doesn't have much to do with bones. it is more of how the person is built and how far they can stretch. some people are born amazingly flexible and some are not. almost everyone can get their splits and other flexible things if they stetch alot (like every day!) and work hard. and for joining dance class, go for it!! sometimes starting dance when you are older is a good thing because you are more coodinated and memorization may come more easily to you than it would when you are younger.

Flexibility varies from one person to another. I am not quite as flexible as I was when I was younger, but mostly because I didn't keep up with stretching exercises through having two children and while they were growing up. Yet I am still much more flexible than most dancers in my belly dance class, and I am one of the oldest in our class. I will be 50 later this year, yet I am more flexible than teeenagers in our class. There are stretching exercises to improve and maintain your flexibility. Just take care to warm up before stretching and to not over-stretch and injure yourself while stretching. An injury could eventually make you even less flexible.

yeah! im much older and im REALLY flexible!

well im 15 and i am a full time dancer in college... i am one of the least flexible in my class yet i am not completely solid...my teacher told me that it i am not likely to get any more flexilbe that my hip bones have formed and that is the way they'll stay.. she said that 75 per cent of flexiblity is inherited from your parents so take a look at them and see how flexible they are? if you cant do box splits now its likely you will never be able to sorry.... but you cant always try nd get your kicks higher or your turns better dont give up... flexiblity is not essential to be a dancer so dont feel like thers no pint in trying..... GOOD LUCK!!!

thats not true at all...your bones may grow but as long as you strech good everyday then you'll stay flexible..and when it starts to hurt push it harder because that means its working properlly also yoru not to old to start dance they have classes designed for teens who are just gettign started! hope i helped! =]
