I'm sorry, but the poster before me is talking absolute dribble. I do ballet and I am 22 and have just started pointe work. I believe that I am getting very good and have improved amazingly over the past two months. I think what happens with a lot of people who are not in a professional company by 18 is that they get a bit "sloppy" with turning upto classes etc. It becomes easier for other things to get in the way of going to class and as a result you are not consistently keeping to it. But i have surprised myself and gained incredible confidence in my own personal abilities. I think if you are healthy, your bones are strong and you are focused, never EVER let another person tell you that you can't do it. Focus on being the best you can be and then whether you make it to regional dance companies (as opposed to national), you will still have achieved a great deal.

Good luck!!!!!

PS: I advise that you spend an hour each day reading around ballet also. I read a technique book in my spare time and memorise some technique work from the dvds, as well as doing some stretching and practice.

The world is your oyster...so go eat it!!!!

if you can do the moves this is fine, but be aware that most ballerinas as you know train from a very young age, they can do all sorts of things with thier bodies as a result, you may have the passion but if you cannot do these things then you will often be overlooked.

I would look into other types of dance, many would suit you and even if your not a pro ballerina, it doesnt mean you cannot teach or dance other types of dance.

Never say never.

Really it is very hard to become a "pro" ballerina if you haven't been in classes from age three. The only thing to do now is take as many classes as you can (like at least three a day) and at a high class dance studio where you know the teachers good. Take lots of ballet but try other dance forms too like modern dance. Maybe you could take some dance in college to help you with your dance dreams.

i know some1 who didn't start taking classes til they were 18 & now they r proffessionaly dancing.
I think u can do it if u have the heart & the skill.

If you mean pointe work, then I'm afraid that ship has sailed. But don't let that stop you from taking ballet. The discipline is something that'll stay with you your whole life and besides, who says it HAS to be ballet? How about Modern,Jazz,Flamenco,Tango,Tap!
