Position:Home>Dancing> Should I try out for colorguard??

Question:Ok for the past 2 years I've thought about trying out for colorguard, but I've never really wanted to do it until now. I quit band in middle school...so I'm not totally clueless to the band thing and I know a lot of people in it. My best friend got a practice flag and wants to train me until tryouts which are on the 14th of April...so I have about a month and spring break where I can practice all week, but there's a problem; It's for the marching season next year and I'll be a junior with no clue what I'm doing. Do you think I'm too old to do what these girls did their freshmen year or should I give it a shot?

give it a shot!!! you're lucky enough to have a friend that's willing to help you so take advantage of it! you're definitely not too old!! plus if you've been in band, you've already got rhythm and musicality which will put you one step ahead of some of the other people that try out. practice everyday and you'll be more than ready. good luck!!

I started colorgaurd my Junior year of high school with NO band experience. I did just fine and went on later to twirl sabers and rifles (not sharp or loaded). Marching's not that hard and with a little practice I think you'll find you were worried for nothing. Besides the worst that could happen is you not make the team. You aren't on the team now, so, it's not like you're losing something you already have. You'll be fine.

try it, it can't hurt to go and tryout. tryouts will tell you if you want to keep doing it. good luck!

Go for it! We always have a lot of new people on the guard each year that are juniors and even seniors! It's a lot of fun and gives you friendships unlike any other! But don't join if you aren't willing to devote a lot of time to it. It basically uses up all of your freetime depending on how much the band practices. But it's worth it.

do it.......if you don't try then you will miss out on a great experience....it doesn't matter that you are a junior at least you still went for what felt right any way band kid are great and will just see you as a friend .......i'm in band and play the flute..marching season was the happiest time of my life....i would seriously be lost in high school without it....so go for it
