Position:Home>Dancing> Ive been doing ballet for a while and was wondering about going onto demi pointe

Question:im really desperate to get onto pointe asap and am working really hard. but i know it takes years of practice and strong muscles before you can go onto pointe. i was wondering if by going onto demi- pointe (shankless pointe shoes) once a week would speed up going onto pointe and help strengthen my feet or if i could damage myself by doing this? also if i could damage myself by doing this any suggestions on what excersises i could do to get onto pointe as fast as possiible, thanks.

try many many releves. and mabye pile on a few more pre pointe classes. when i first got on pointe, i had started taking extra pre pointe claseses at a near by studio and that plus releves, and using a thera band to pointe and articulate through the foot really helped. hope this helps!

If you take classes, ask your teacher. Get the advice of a professional dancer before trying anything that could hurt yourself. They will also know the best exercises. and if you find out I would like to know too.

I don't know if it will speed up the process. I take Royal Academy of Dance exams every year and each year it gets progessively harder. This year we are doing it on demi- pointe so I guess it make it harder. My teacher said it was the in between of dancing on flat and dancing on pointe.

this wont speed anything up. just keep doing a million releves. i use this thing called a thero-band. its like an overgrown rubber band that you put around your foot. theres a few different exercises u can do w/ them. u should check into them; they work pretty well :)

demi-pointe can hurt you so if you decide to do it be careful
elevas(sp??) are awesome so are prances
talk to your dance teacher
