Position:Home>Dancing> Can I do ballet?

Question:I'm 13 years old and I would love to do ballet. I've done gymnastics for 3 years and I can do the splits with my right leg. I have good back flexibility and I can do backhand springs and stuff like that. I do ankle raises every day so my ankles are pretty strong. When I was 8 I did jazz and tap for 2 years and I did ballet when I was 4. Could I do pointe and how long would it take me to get on pointe? Is it expensive? Thanx:)

You go girl! Anyone can do ballet, no matter what their age, and you are still so very young. Start by finding a beginning level class, preferably for adults (adult level usually begins at 13 and up). Then learn the basics through this class and if you feel ready for a more advanced level, go for it! You will need to be taking at least 2 classes each week in order to get on pointe in the next few years, so see what you and your parents can afford. Local universities with dance departments usually give classes to non-students, and some even offer scholarships when you become college aged. Pointe is costly, so save your money up! A good pointe shoe can be around $75 and up, and you will want a few leotards and pairs of tights. Good luck!

i started when iwas 12 and worked really hard and i have a natural ability to be good (lol!) and i just got my pointe shoes (im 14) you can do it!

ballet would be perfect for you. creates balance, and if you plan on doing sports, it would improve your skills. if you ever see football players, sometimes you will catch them doing ballet moves, I have, I tripped out. But yea I think you should if you want to. If you did when you were 4 then your should have a little idea on how much it costs, and add the price since your older now. And having good flexibility is also good thing to have.

So I say go for it, if you love it you can probably get scholarships if your good enough.

Good Luck

if you joined a good ballet school than of course you could do ballet
the cost of classes vary but it is prbably the same price as gymnastics
pointe shoes are expensive- 80-100 dollars but if you get fitted for the right pair they can last a while
i started pointe at the age of 12 you would have to take regular technique (ballet) classes for some time (it depends on how focused you are and how much you practice)
GOOD LUCK!!!!

You should definitely take ballet classes! Work on your technique and strength and ask your ballet teacher if you should go on pointe. Every body is different and your teacher knows best. Pointe takes a lot of practice to get good at it. Shoes range anywhere from $60-100, but if you get good ones for your feet they usually last awhile (mine last about 6 months)
Good luck & have fun!

You can definetly do ballet. Too bad you did not start at a younger age, byt if you work hard and stay dedicated you can go to point in 2-3 years. One thing that is very important though, is to appear long and graceful, so if you have long legs and arms then progressing to point might be faster.

Of course you can still do ballet..Pointe is not really expensive but dancing will cost some $. If you are flexible, you should totally go for it..and about pointe, your teacher will let you know if you're ready: everyone's ankles are different!

yes! you can start at whatever time you want but have to accept the sacrifices, dedication and hard work if you REALLY, SERIOUSLY want to do it. the way my dance studio does it is that i had 1 year of grade1 and passed the exam and then had 2 years of grade 2, passed it and now i am on grade 3 (thats when you get on pointe). so it took me 3 years. pointe shoes are actually really expensive, like $90-$100. they hurt alot so be prepared! hope i helped!

You could, but from experience (12 years of ballet, 8 on pointe) you probably wouldn't like it. you would not be put with kids from you age group and gymnastics has absolutly nothing to do with ballet. the teacher wont care if you can do a back flip shes a BALLET teacher. and you can't start pointe for a while. i waited 4 years. and you have to wait until your bones are fully grown or you will seriously damage them. i have had 3 surgeries. so you might want to rethink that ballet thing...

Yep. =)
I just started ballet and I'm 13. I've done aLOT of sports and started Jazz in the summer.
You should start!! =)
