Position:Home>Dancing> What is the name of this dance move?

Question:Its kind of a flip & im guessing its a lyrical, contemporary, modern, or ballet dance move because i usually see it in those kinds of dances.
But it starts with the person basically laying on the floor and they flip backwards into the splits or just flip backwards.

If you've ever watched the first movie "step up" in the beginning when the girl is teaching the guy some dance moves she does that & i've also seen it on the dallas cowboys cheerleader show on cmt in the tryouts.

I've been trying to find videos of it everywhere & i cant seem to, and id love to know the name because im hoping to learn how to do it.

Anyone think they can help?

It's a shoulder roll, I don't think that there is any professional term for it, but there are many different types of it that are used in lyrical, modern, contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop dances, I've never seen it done in ballet. It's much easier than it looks, trust me! But don't just try it on your own, because it is very easy to hurt your neck if you do it improperly! Good luck!

Sorry, I don't know what this is called backwards- I don't think it actually has a proper name!! I know that fowards it's called a chest roll though!!

MORE DETAILS pleasee Its kind of confusing what you had explained before

i think you are talking about a shoulder roll. when doing a shoulder roll you are starting sitting on your butt or you could be laying on your back. then you roll on one shoulder and do a split in the air and land on your stomach.

hope this helps :)

AHAHA I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT
ITS A FISH FLOP!
OMG MY FRIEND TAUGHT ME THAT
LOL ITS REALLLLYYY HARD TOOO DOOO!
okay lol
i can explain how to do it for you

so:
lie on your back with your right arm straight out perpendicular to your legs and your left arm back wards with your finger tips facing your top of your head.
slowly lift up both legs except keep the left slightly bent and the right leg more foward than the leg.
DO NOT ROLL ON THE CENTER OF YOUR BACK NO NO NO NO NO! (: roll to your right shoulder.
and flop!
well like. don't start with the arms first, support your butt first then get the hang of it.
when you get out of the flop, you're supposed to "slide" out of it so its much easier.
i suggest asking your jazz teacher or contemporary teacher if you have one, it would be much easier for them to explain
