There are various fabrics which should work for your costume. I have used chiffons, silkessence, liquid gold, and silks for veils and costume items. Chiffons tend to be more sheer. The other fabrics are more opaque. Silkessence is available at JoAnn Fabrics, and is not very expensive. I have not found organza to be a good fabric for floatiness, as it is a stiffer fabric, used to give clothing a "crisp" look.

Shira's website has a pattern for a circle skirt that contains a list of recommended fabrics.

Her fabric descriptions may help you focus your search better.

Usually I unwrap a yard or so of fabric from the bolt to test its floatiness, so I know if it should work well for the item that I plan to make with it.

Good luck!

you could try silk

Silk would be the best thing

Umm I'm not really sure about specific but when I was little my mom used to make my halloween costumes every year! She went to a fabric store called Joanns, I think it was called, and they have all types of fabric there! Maybe you could ask someone who works there and see what they recomend. I don't know if it's everywhere cause I'm in Texas but if you can find the store then yeah. Hope that helps. = )

Silk is not a good idea, because it makes you sweat and is not very free flowing (some silks are too rigid). I would use chiffon or organza.

Net curtains

normally, the stuffs they use to make belly dancing costumes is silk...but there are pros and cons about this...

pros: the fabric is lightweight and allows floatiness on the sleeves and bottoms just like you wanted

cons: it makes you sweat easily...

What about "Organza"??

silk or satin.

Either chiffon or a gauzy cotton like peasant skirts are made from.
