Doing the knee drop and actually hitting the knee hard on the floor can cause deformity. You can break your kneecap, rip your ACL and/or PCL in the knee, and later end up with things like arthritis which can be so bad that you will need a knee replacement. Best to fake the knee actually hitting the ground instead of hitting it for real.

Head spins need to be done correctly or you, in rare cases, can break any of the vertabrae on your neck if you can't break the fall with your hands. Ditto for the head slide.

If you have a recent heart attack, doing any of the upside down movements in B-dancing (head spins, airtracks, handstand hops) can create great strains on the heart and can lead to a 2nd heart attack or worse. Ditto for all this if you had open heart surgery.

It's always a possibility that you can severely hurt yourself or sustain a permanent injury, dancing can be very strenuous & hard. But as long as you're smart about it and take proper precautions you should be ok. Always practice on a tumble mat before you try it on a hard surface like the floor and never try to do a move that you feel that you aren't comfortable or ready to do. Take your time and practice.
Good Luck.

yes

Hi bboy,

Dancing can cause major injury. But, sitting in a padded office chair, in a climate-controlled building can too, for example carpel tunnel syndrome from typing, sickbuilding syndrome from poor air quality, etc. Who is having more fun?

Have you seen the movie Million Dollar Baby with Hillary Swank? "Number 1 rule is protect yourself."

Many athletes/dancers are also involved with other types of training to strengthen the muscles which are pushed to the max by their chosen activity. Strong, flexible muscles can prevent more serious types of injuries.

If your wrists are bothering you, this might be an area to focus on. A physiotherapist can recommend exercises and serve as an occasional coach if your problems re-occur. The physiotherapist might want to see a video of the type of dance you are doing since you might not have space to demonstrate in the office.

A weight training and/or yoga routine will also help your muscle tone, flexibility, breathing and endurance.

I would also recommend you take a serious look at your diet and water intake. Most North Americans are chronically dehydrated which leaves our muscle cells starving for water. I know I get cramps and excessive soreness when I don't don't drink enough water. Spinach and bananas are good sources of potassium which helps the body to balance hydration. Adequate calcium intake is also imperative for the maintenance of healthy bones.

Number 1 rule protect yourself.

Definitely keep on dancing!!!!! Keeping yourself active is the best preventative medicine.

dance ... always

Yes, as it is possible to severely injure yourself in any style of dance but seeing as you have to do tricks that can cause you to land on your neck/spine/head/other delicate areas, bboying has probably a high injury rate. probably those you think they can do a hard move but are not at the standard.
as with the hurting wrists, some people are just born with bad flexibilty in certain parts of their body and extensive over-stretching in those areas are likely to cause long-term damage. hope i helped :)
