Generally most dance classes are group classes and there are many different levels, so you will be in a class with other beginners. I think if you should do jazz or ballroom since you are and actress and these are the styles of dance I see most often in plays and musicals. You may also want to consider a ballet class since its a good foundation for pretty much every other dance style that exist, and it will help you become more flexible. Any dance class will tone you because all styles take a lot of strength (The two extremes for this in my opinion are ballet and break dancing). Also some classes do have recitals at the end, so the students can show off what they learn, and generally it's everyone's parents so it's no big deal and no one will think your a fool. If anything they should think your awesome for having the courage to dance and break the stereotype that all dancers have to be supper flexible and supper skinny. Have fun dancing!

Take a group jazz class! Don't worry about your weight, I have seen plenty of overweight dancers who are awesome! If you need more encouragement, watch Hairspray! Jazz will help you the most with theater, I think! Don't worry about looking foolish, it's the only way to learn! Just practice for a performance, and you'll do great! It's just like acting, but with your whole body! break a leg! -you know what I mean:-)

1. there are larger dancers
2. if you try your best you then you are not going to mess up
3. I think ballet or jazz would be best
