About the DWTS dancers?

Question:Ok so I was at dance the other day and and during our water brake my friend and I were just asking dumb questions and just being ourselfs....and we asked our dance teachers if we trained really hard everyday for like a year do you think we could become professional.....and of course it was a joke but then it brought out this question...

How did the Pros that are on Dancing with the stars get on the show? Like were they just at a competition one day and like some producer from the show was like,
"hey were doing a show called DWTS would you like to be on it?"
Or did the dancers send In a video of them selfs showing what they could bring to the show??

ok well if you know it would be great to let me know so I can have something to share during the next water break

The dancers are all national or international champions. The producers would have worked with a group such as the IDSF (international dancesport federation) when producing the show, to help them understand dancesport, the dances, costumes, how competitions work etc.
The IDSF would have most likely suggested dancers to go on the show. The producers would have contacted the dancers and asked them if they want to go on the show
