it is possible to start jazz without ballet, but honestly you won't be very good at it without ballet! ballet gives you proper technique and makes you look good at jazz and other types of dancing. you should do ballet first and do it for at least 2-3 years, yes, this seems like a long time but if you want to prosper in jazz you'll have to have a good foundation of ballet. if it is allowed where you're taking(which it usually is), take both! if not, go with ballet!

I'd start with ballet. After you learn the basics switching to jazz would be fairly easy...But the reverse is not true.

It is best to start with ballet, even if it is only for one year. It really is the foundation of all dance and it is the best starting point. You could take both jazz and ballet. If you really wanted to, go ahead and take jazz, you don't need any experience.

Hope I helped (:

ballet. cuz jazz is kinda "modern ballet" ΓΌ

jazz can be pretty hard at first if you have had no dance experience (although totally possible) so I would start with ballet. if your heart really is in jazz though, then do it.

Take Modern or Lyrical;
Its kind of a mixture of both;
Faster than ballet more slower than jazz.

I start w/ dance bcz, while its the center of dance, after learning it and the structure it teaches you, all other dances become so much easier. Believe me, take ballet, then i'd take ballet and jazz the next year, but whenever we need 2 get better at anything, my dance instructor tells me 2 sign up 4 another ballet class!

Jazz is easier than ballet. The one in Step Up is definitely jazz....I think. It's definitely not ballet. It also wasn't lyrical because there were no lyrics in the song

start with ballet because after that you can do any other kind of dance easily
