Position:Home>Dancing> How ask Parents about Ballet 14 year old boy?

Question:I am thinking about taking Ballet so I could bulk up and join wrestling next year as a Freshman. The only problem is that both my parents are closed-minded and I know they would say no. I AM STRAIGHT FOR ALL OF YOU ANNYOING @##$% OUT THERE! So how could I ask them. I am a ittle embarresed even thinking about it. I dont know if there are any places close enough for me. I dont give a @#$% about what the annoying people at shcool think. I dont wrestle right now but want to get into it next year. I am about 5'7" tall and weigh 130 lbs.

Lots of great answers so far. As a wrestler in high school and a ballet/modern/ballroom dancer later, I can tell you that ballet class is no place to bulk up - in fact it is the opposite in that it will keep you lean and flexible. It is a great idea for cross training though. If you want to bulk up - start working the iron hard and take 2-3 dance classes/week to stay flexible. For wrestling, I wouldn't worry about bulking up - nature will take care of that and try out at the weight you have at the time. Just work to become strong, fast and flexible...dance and a weight training program will give you what you want. BTW eat a balanced diet - DON'T start using anabolic steroids and forget about all the muscle-building crap (like creatine etc.) the muscle magazines try to sell you - they don't work. In the mean time enjoy being a straight male in the company of attractive, physically fit young women.

Explain that you want to cross-train by dancing. Find some sites that talk about the benefits of it (cardio workout, coordination, flexibility, muscle building...). Explain how it would help you in other sports. If they still say no, try compromising. Will they drive you to lessons as long as you pay for the class? If not ballet, is there some other kind of dance (hip hop, Latin...) you could do?

When you ask:
Try asking when they're calm and not too busy. Maybe while you're eating dinner or out shopping. Rehearse what you want to say and prepare answers for what questions they may ask. Listen to their concerns and try to find solutions.

You actually have a good idea. I hope this helped!

it won't really bulk you up. i am a dancer and it is mostly lithe, lean muscle. besides, one year won't cut it.
you could tell your parents that it would be a great source of perserverance, responsibility, culture and individuality...if your heart is set on ballet.
you have a lot of guts to want to dance, though your best bet would be the weight room.
good luck!

Tell them that you're doing it for wrestling. Tons of football players dance for god sake!! I think you'll find that you really like dance!!

2 things:

1) explain to them that you just wanna do it to help with balance and strength for wrestling.

2)THIS IS NOTHING AGAINST YOU...but maybe you are using this as an excuse, whether you realize this or not, and actually wanna be a dancer. There is nothing wrong with that. I have plenty of guys in my ballet classes and to tell yuo the truth...i think its hot. I mean, strong, flexible guys...haha!

perks-girls like it
-gets you in shape
-you get to be with the girls....

hahahahahahaha.lmao.

ok. im done.

hope that helped.

go ballet! woot....im a dancer in case you didnt catch on...............

p.s. your build is perfect for a guy dancer...no joke. You are tall and thin from what you describe, so when you build the muscle, that will be very good!

Well the question is what city or state do you live in and just tell them what you told us which is''Mom or dad I want to take wrestiling next year and I think Ballet will help me soooo... can I take ballet to strengthin me up and get prepared''That's what I thnk you should say. It's more reasonable.<Glad to help>

why be embarrassed? I take dance and about half the school is guys. And... when we gets into the duets the guys always come to class with a big smile on their faces if you catch my drift... lifting girls in skin tight clothes? what strait guy could resist?
besides, it will get you in really good shape. so just out and say you want to take it. get a couple sources off wikipedia for how strong, balanced, and flexible it will get you in order to lead your wrestling team to victory.

ur realy brave 4 takn this chance, i lik boys who dance! if its really embarising... then ask 4 private lessons it might make it easyer! jazz might help them think better of the situation, but ur right u might get mor muscles faster if u take ballet. right away tell ur parents that u want 2 do it just 4 wrestling, so the dont think they hav steared u wrong! not that thers anything rong with guys who dance in ballet, ur parents might think so though!...infact we need more guys out ther that do ballet!
