Are you allowed to wear a real ballgown or does it have to be a "no-costume" restricted outfit? I.e. are you dancing with your teacher as a partner? If that's the case, you are allowed a ballgown. If no - you might need to check the dress code for the competition (depends on the country I guess).
I don't think it is possible to make it look like a freek show just by picking a bad solid color. You have to be more careful with patterned fabric though.

Any bright or light color is good. Depending in your skin tone and your hair color. Light blue, light green, pink, lilac... Don't go for a dark color - you won't be as noticeable in the ballroom. There are people who can pull off wearing neon colors in Smooth/Standard quite well - I'm one of them. But those are better for large compeitions where you need to be noticed from far away among 24 other couples.

For the no-costume part, try to select a skirt and a top of a matching color. Different colors visually divide your body and that's not good. If your skirt is black I recommend a black top preferrably with open neckline and some light details around the colar line. It gives the best top line. BUT do stay away from black ballgowns. Black ballgown is no match to a bright one, while a red blowse plus black skirt is not that much more eye catching than a plain black professional look.

It's a good idea to keep it modest for Bronse. You'd be setting yourself up for a certain expectations if you're wearing a professional-level gown. I'd still say any color you pick is fine. What you can do to keep it modest is select the one with fewer rinestones. Possibly with smaller floats (in Bronse, you don't have enough movement to use them to your advantage) and not-so-open back. You can glue on more stones as you progress.

well why not red? or maybe a burgundy colour
since red tends to catch the eyes faster people will have their eyes on you first and if you don't want to be so flashy maybe a burgundy winish colour would be nice

This is a good article http://www.danceway.com/article2007_3.ht...

Sooo, I'm a weird combo of dancer (for 22 years) and a liscensed counselor...and something we always keep in mind is that when you're in a new situationa nd you want to subtely demand respect, wear red or yellow. They're colours that force people to look at you, without being tacky and in your face.
