Nope, you're not too old :) As the others have said, stretch out every morning and night and you'll get there. Some good yoga poses that will help are alternate leg stretch and downward dog. The sun salutation will also help (see link below).

The time it takes you to get your splits will depend on how flexible you are now. Some runners are more flexible than others, so it may take more than a month - but a lot depends on your daily regimen and whether you fully stretch out twice a day.

Also, it depends on your body's physique. The ball and socket of the hip joint determine whether you will be able to do a full straddle or not as does how your hips have aged so far. There is a point (and it is different for everyone) when the body leaves calcium deposits in the hips that can make the splits more difficult. Right and left splits depend on how stretched out your hamstring and thigh muscles are.

You can lie on your back with your hips to the wall and your feet in the air then open your legs to the sides. The wall will support your legs and gravity will pull them down .. stay there for a minimum of 30 seconds for the stretch to help. Eventually, you can flip over so that your bum is against the wall and your body weight is pushing you down into your split. Use your arms to control the amount of weight. This helped me a LOT!

Best of luck! and btw, I'm 32 and got my splits by starting yoga at 30 and stretching :)

no your not to old! I strecthed after a hot bath so that my muslces were already warm. Strecth every morning and night! You will get farther and farther each time!

no your not too old. just every day when you have a little free time just sit down and stretch and day by day you will become more flexible. Also, just keep going down a little on your splits and you will reach the floor eventually.

no you are not too old...some simple things would be just some stretching...also you could maybe take up running to build stamina

if you stretch your splits every single day for a month holding them a little bit longer each time, at the end of the month you'll be able to do them! Make sure you do some basic stretching before you actually go into the splits.

To improve flexibility, you have to stretch. If you're taking dance classes, they should have taught you stretches to do already. Just do those at home and be careful not to pull anything. Always stretch warm.
